TER HI F Survey or the Crater Lake Highway from Medford to Agate, has been ordered by the state highway commis sion, preparatory to letting the con tract for grading and surfacing, Engineer Goodnight of the local state highway force reported yesterday. The house committee on roads, of which Congressman Mott la a mem ber, yesterday reported favorably on House BUI 8702, which authorizes tho expending of 9400,000,000, In the several states of the union under the : nra. I. Is estimated that of this sum. between 970.000 and 80.000 will be available for the Crater Lake-Agate unit. , Engineer Goodnight, informed the county court that the survey could be' made within a combatively thort time. . . The contract has been let Jor the resurfacing of the Crater lake high way from Little Butte to Elk creek. Work Is expected to start the Utter part of April. Completion of all the work, as sured and contemplated, will bring needed resurfacing and repairs to the Crater lake route, from this city to Elk creek, a distance of approximately 30 miles. The section bears the brunt of the heavy traffic, on the highway. PORTLAND, Ore., Marcft 22. (AP) Proposals for grading and paving the last section of the East Portland Oregon City super, highway were opened by the state highway com mission here today. . - Edelfsen tt, Weygandt of Portland bid low on the 1.0b mile project :at $140,022. Today's letting, if all contracts are awarded, will practically exhaust the NRA appropriation of 16,100,000 made last year. About $500,000 will be placed under contract, next month. Other projects on which bids were opened today included: Jackson County: Widening and surfacing with bituminous macadam Agate-Little Butte section of Crater Lake highway, a. 54 miles; Northwest Roads Co., Portland, $50,030. Howard McKlnney, a former Ta coma, Wash., constable and police officer, filed for constable for Vie Medford district on the Democratic ticket. His slogan: "I pledge my self to serve my district needs, faith fully, honestly and efficiently." Mc Klnney came here In 1930 and pur chased a home. Frank Anderson filed for constable on the Democratic ticket a month ago. To date there has been no Re publican filing for the berth.. ROSES OUT EARLY IN MEDFORD AREA Roses are blooming In Medford. The prize flower of June la out In March and In all Its glory, a bouquet left at the Chamber of Commerce today reveals. A bouquet of pink, single roses was left there this morning by Mrs. Q. W. Oliver of 527 Bryant street. The blossoms are tho first brought to the chamber thta season. A lilac from Ocorge Bartons garden was'b'so on display at the Chamber of Commerce this morning. To make preparations for summer camps, detachments of 26 men each are going out from CCO Camp Elk Creek, and Camp Carberry Creek, dis trict headquarters announced today. Elk Creek group this morning left for the site rear Union creek to estab lish camp, under the direction of Captain Glenn J. Key. Lieutenant Benjamin C. King, commanding of ficer at Camp Carberry creek, will to morrow head the detachment going to Dog Lako In the Freemont forest. Carberry company will be located at Dog lake during the summer. W. C. Strahan Leases ' Ivy Street Market W. O. The state highway commission at a meeting here Wednesday Issued the order forbidding such practice. The commission also ordered that no article, whether timbers, piling, or other material, longer than 75 feot may be hauled on highways of the state without a special permit.
