A double main event wrestling card will be staged at the armory tonight by Promoter Mack LI I lard with the probability that local fans will see come highly entertaining muscle mangling. Lob Grimes, Australian, who put on a great show here a week ago against Les Wolfe, will tangle with Mcdford'a pride, Fireman Ray Friable, and the fracas should be one tat the book. Grimes has a bag full of unorthodox tricks and, In addition. la a temperamental matman who gets plenty rough when the going u bard. Friable Is big enough and rough nougb to give the Australian lots of action and has no compunction about dishing out punishment when K foe wants to "play that way." They will wrtstle one hour or two out of three falls. Swede Anderson, also a Medford fireman, will referee. In the other half of the bill, Oharlle Hansen, colorful Seattle heavyweight, will face Rocky Brooks, Canadian strong man, In an hour's grapple. Brooks refereed here last week and made a big hit with the cash customers. He has tremendous strength and Is fast and aggressive. He la able to break holds by sheer power and, according to advance no tices, should give the Seattle star plenty of trouble. Wsl ter Blackwell of Bsker, 143, knocked out Billy Wyatt of Halfway in the tcond round ot their scheduled four round preliminary. , SONS 1934 HOOP SEASON AMONG BEST ON RECORD The Southern Cregon Normal "White Elephants" In their second year under the tutelage of Coach Howard Hobson have Just completed the most outstanding season of bas ketball in the long history of the school. Starting this year with a comparatively green team, composed of all freshmen and sophomores with only two veterans, the team lost series to Oregon State and Multnomah club In December during the holiday pe riod. During the regular season that fol lowed, the team won 18 straight vic tories without losing a single game. Most of the games were won by large scores, with all of the 10 squad men seeing action. Among the victims that lost two games each were Multnomah club, Chlco State, House of David, Albany College, Humboldt State ftud others The team averaged 45 points a game probably the highest scoring team of college rank on the coast this year. Several opposing college coaches toward the end of the season named the SONS as the largest and best team they had seen during the year. Howell, 0 foot 8 Inch forward. Willamette university has been host to state basketball, tourneya alnce 1017 when Coach Bob Matthews held a tourney that Included seven Wil lamette valley and southern Oregon teams, but the state-wide meets were not initiated until 1020, when 12 lead lng teams from all over the atate competed. In this first fight for the state hoop crown Salem high defeated Lincoln of Portland in a close fought battle that ended 13 to 11. In 1022 the state was doled out In competitive districts, each district holding an elimination tourney to decide what team would represent It at the state meet.
