This Is nearly double the num ber for the same period last year. The payments are for years from 1627 to 1033. March 16 Is the final date for pay ment of taxes under new tax laws passed by the last session of the law a taxpayer may pay ail his taxes by that date and receive a 3 per cent rebate on the total amount. Many are taking advantage of this rebate. A more optimistic spirit of y--pj0 and more money In circu lation has also speeded payments. On quarterly tax payments, which a taxpayer may make if he desires, a 3 per cent rebate Is allowed If he pays three-fourths of his taxes by March IS. A 1 per cent rebate Is al lowed Is he pays half his taxes. If no payments are made interest at the rate of two-thirds of I per cent Interest Is asaeved monthly. , Webb A.
