Will Build New Home William Morrison plans to begin construction soon of a, new home on the Jackson property he recently purchased near Phoenix, one of the first Indications of spring building activities. To Arrive Moilay Mark A. Goldy of the Fidelity Building and Loan asso ciation Is expected to arrive in Med ford next Monday from Salt Lake City, Utah, to spend a few days here on business. Wheat Coming Vp Newly sown m-heat fields are beginning to turn green with sprouts in the Sams Val ley section. Earl Weaver, rancher of that district, reported when in Med ford today. Mr. Weaver has quite an acreage of wheat. Purchases Acreage Rlnehard Dubs, valley resident, has purchased 15 acres of land In the Phoenix section from the Fidelity Building and Loan asso ciation. Sillman, In response to a recent request for old pictures to be used In connection with publicity for Oregon's Diamond Jubilee celebration next June 3 to B. Other valley rest-, dents having such pictures are also urged to get in touch with the Cham ber of Commerce, as they are planned to be used to good advantage In fur thering the Jubilee celebration cause. Houses Are Scarce Prospective house renters In Medford of late have been meeting with difficulty to rent suitable homes. Carl Y. Tengwald. realtor, said today. He declared a number of such renters found It nec essary to search for places several days before they could find the prop erty desired. He said, however. Im provements, repairing and remodeling of some places would greatly relieve the situation. Wild Flowers In Profusion Guy Crosby returned to his home in Med ford last evening from several days spent In the hill country near Med ford. attending to duties at his mine. Despite the lack of the usual supply of water, miners are still finding gold in fairly good quantities, he said. He also reported mild weather of the past season has encouraged the early appearance of wild flowers In great profusion. c I satin In Tourney "Doc" Winkle is leading the three-cushion billiard tournament, which has been in prog ress for the past two weeks at the Elks club. He has four wins to his credit and no losses. The tourney has eight entrants and is being play ed on a handicap basis, making the majority of the games played so far very close contests. The club had planned a tournament for 18.2 balk line players, but was postponed for thl season. Arrived from Salem T. M. Mover arrived this week from Salem to Join Mrs. Mover, who has been here for a short time In connection with the opening in a short time of the Med ford School of Beauty Culture on East Main street. The school will have a capacity of 35 students and of this number over one-half have already applied for enrollment. The courses offered will cover a period of three months. Take Keys Out of Cars Facilitating the possibility of auto thefts, a cur sory survey of automobiles parked i along Medford streets revealed that a j surprisingly large number of motorists ! fall to lock their cars when parking them along the street. Local police ! again repeat the necessity of taking . keys out of ignition switches to fore- j stall operation of auto thieves. The police also advise motorists against j leaving bundles in cars with doors unlocked. ! Rack to Rogue River G. F. Moul ton, who had been spending several days in Medford, returned to his home in Rogue River yesterday. He had been at the bedside of sick relatives near Medford. , Here on Business Mrs. A. O. Hill arrived yesterday from Oakland, Cal.. to spend several days attending to business matters In connection with properties held in Gold Hill and Med ford. On Inspection Trip W. L. Jones of the Rogue River national forest, and Max Rnd. road construction Inspec tor of the regional forest service of fice of Portland, are spending today on an Inspection trip In the Ashland watershed area. Boat Club 'Active Preliminary plana are to be underway for spring activities of the Southern Oregon Boat club, according to Joe Marshall, secretary, today. Mr. Marshall said interest in boating has shown a mark ed increase during the past two years: until at the present over 50 boats are. owned by club member. j Early Opening Seen As a result of! a mild winter, which left a minimum' amount of snowfall in the higher al- be open to visitors much earlier than for the post several years. At the present time, motorists can drive quite a distance up the Diamond Lake road and walk to the lake. Last year the resort was not opened until the mid dle of June. Show Pictures at Sams Valley Moving pictures of Crater Lake na tional park and of forest service topics will be shown to the Sams Valley Grange tomorrow evening at the reg ular meeting. The program will con sist of several reels. Including winter scenes In the park, snow removal and forest scenes. Similar pictures were shown last week at the Applcgate Grange. Recruits Wanted Jennings D. Low man, sub-station commander of the United States recruiting office, an nounces that he will be in Medford again in the Interests of recruiting for the regular army on March 5, 6 and 7. and that there will be a few choice assignments for local men. These are all for service in the Phil ippine Islands. Signal corps., coast artillery and air corps assignments are available. Wa to Buck Rock John t. Grlb-I ble, senior ranker of the Rogue River national forest staff, returned last! evening from the Buck Rock section, where he had been nuking panoramic photographs to be used in connection with fire lookout station. Mr. Grlb ble brought back an interesting speci men of redwood which, as a result of year-long battles with the elements, resembles an ancient scrubbing brush. The weather had caused a portion of the wood to disintegrate, making fibers resemble bristles of a scrub bing brush. The specimen Is to be placed on display in the city to morrow.
