DIESEL TRACTOR A great deal of Interest la being taken oy the public In a new trac tor that I, being displayed at the snow room of the Miller Tractor and Equipment company In Medford, lo cated on South Riverside. This trac tor Is one of the first Diesel trac tors to be delivered In Medford. This tractor is not a new thing as there has been In other localities tractors of this dlscrlptton for some two or three years. The outstanding feature of this tractor Is that It uses no sparkplugs or carburetor, depending on the com pression of the cylinder to explode the fuel which Is of a low grade nature similar to the oil that Is burn, ed In heating furnaces. This fuel costs about one-third w.hat standard grades of gasoline sells for snd as a result many re ports of unbelievable economy la be ing reported. The operating cost of the fuel In many Instances have been as low as ten cent an hour, developing Its full horsepower. This Is quite remarkable, for a gas trac tor of the same horsepower would use about 75 cents worth of gaao. line. There will be a talk and dis cussion on this tractor at the trae- tor company's atore on r.hni,re ai This will be an all day session and is open to all people that are In- terested In the dlesel tractors. AS BAIT FOR DRINK DILLON. Mont. (UP) This 1, mm story so you can draw vour own conclusions. Harry Rice, salesman tmake a noto of that.) waa telling the folks about that time he waa fishing near Gardiner. Rice and a companion needed bait. They caught some frogs. Rice saw a rattlesnake trying to swallow an other frog. He stepped on the rat tler's neck, extracted the bait and poured some whisky down the snake's throat as compensation, so the tale goes. Fishing was resumed. A few mln utes later It waa Interrupted. The snake returned with another frog In Its throat and a pleading look In Its eyes. Mail Tribune Daily Cross -Word Puzzle ACROS8 1. W. Allen, who announces that the Pierce Allen Motor Co., local Dodge and Plymouth dealer, has a shipment of the new Dodge truck, en ' route to Medford. Mr. Allen ,ay: "There Is one group which makes low Initial cost the first consideration. Then there la a class ! wnlcn Rr''' stress on mail mum durability and economy ot ope ration. "The first group I, chiefly eon fined to purchasers of trucks In the lower tonnage ranges. The higher tonnage rangea obviously appeal to the other group. "It can not be fairly assumed, how ever, that the buyer of the lower priced trucks I, willing to overlook either pay-load capacity, economy of operation, satisfactory length of ser vice life, or attractive appearance whel he buya a truck at lowest pos slbie cost. "Today, the purchaser of a com mercial vehicle who makes prices his prime consideration expects at the same time other qualifications. This type of truck user looks carefully Into mechanical and structural features that promise him the most In unin terrupted service and low-cost up keep. : "The fact that a truck manufsc- ; Hirer Is known to have plants, pro duction facilities and personal train ing such as are associated with Dodge. I is taken Into consideration. The dr- cumstance that the vehicle la of de cidedly advanced design and con struction means much, because it-tn-dlcates a transportation unit that Is flower to depreciate. In these types are to be found such outstanding features as full-floating axles and allow steel Inserts for exhaust valve seats which, together with sllohrome exhaust and nickel-chromium lntske valves, reduce valve grinding and tap pet adjustment almost to the vanish Ing point. "Brske drums are of the best cylln. der Iron obtainable to give maximum life and freedom from scoring. The brakes themselves are hydraullcally operated and. It follows, are auto matically equalized, smooth and safe In action. "In chassla springs, on the other h,nii' n,co manganese alloy la used I ,n P"""cnce to cheaper carbon steels, to the end that spring breakage may do prevented even on the roughest roads. "In the higher tonnage classifica tions, where low first coat Is still an Important factor, but where the ma jor consideration of the buyer Is to operate a truck that Is capable of day-ln and day-out service, carrying heavy loads at minimum coats, per formance becomes of greater Import ance. "The Dodge Brothers' heavy duty line ha been designed to meet all requirements. The line consists or five basic chassis models, ranging from 3 to 1 tone In pay-load ca poclty, and with wheelbases ,11 the way from 150 to 330 Inches." W. H.
