Leaves France T SUSPECTED SAFE ROBBERY EFFORT Being held for Investigation In eon. ncctlon with the attempted robbery of the eats between 11 and 12 o'clock Friday night of the Samson Feed store at 228 North Riverside, wil Ham Johnson, 20; Charles York, 19. and Arthur Hlnz, IB, transients, were arrested Saturday morning and turn ed over to the Medford city police, Johnson, who arrived In Medford Thursday, was arrested at Ashland, while York and Hlnz were returned from the Klamath Junction where they were apprehended. According to Chief of Police Clat ous McCedle, the feed store was en tered by the glass being broken In the front door, and the lock unfast ened. The large doors on the safe were unlocked, and an attempt was made to break the lock off the In side door, with an axe. Investigation ahowed that the axe had been stolen from 401 East Fifth street. ' Nothing was reported missing from the safe or atore. Dlnkens, picturesque mountaineer of the Beagle district, one of southern Oregon's beat known men, called "Jim" by friends throughout the state; died here yes terday at the home of his daugh ter, Mrs. Roy Buckingham, 236 South Central at 10:46 a. m. He had been 111 but a short time, having enjoyed unusually good health until the Illness came, which marked the end of his Journeys over mountain trails, glorified for many folk In the writings of Ben Hur Lampman of The Oregonlan and other newspaper men. He was about 70 years of age. Death was caused by an acute heart attack. The body Is at the Conger funeral parlors and a com plete obituary with arrangements for services will be announced Mon day, Besides his daughter Mrs. Bucking' nam, Mr. Dlnkens leaves one son Wallace Dlnkens of Medford. and hosts of friends In country and city, who will mourn his passing. On Monday, February 19, 8 p. tn., Mr. Oil! will speak at the Sam Val ley Orange hall; on Tuesday, Febru ary 20. 8:15 p. m.. at the Eagle Point Grange hall; on Wednesday, Febru ary 21, at 8 p. m., at the Armory In Medford, and on Thursday, February 22. at 8 p.. m., at Talent Grange hall. The meeting at the Armory will be In the nature of a debate between Mr. Gill and A. E. Brockway, state representative. The public Is Invited and urged to attend. The Eagle Point meeting Is also an open meeting, as Is also the Sams Valley meeting. We believe that the .Talent meeting will also be an- open meeting. Selma CCC Starts Radio-telephone Club Radio club at CCC Camp Kerby. Fan-ell returned to Medford Saturday morning, report ing favorably on his trip east. While Mr. Farrell was In Washing ton, loans of approximately 9450, 000 and 88,000 were made to the Medford and Rogue River Irrigation districts, respectively. Loans for the retirement of bonds had previously been made to the Talent and Gold Hill districts, giving southern Oregon four of the six granted In the state. Mr. Fnrrell stated that the Eagle Point loan had been temporarily de layed. He added, however, that furth er appropriations are expected, and It Is probable all will be made In the next year. Time for refinancing has been ex tended a year, Mr. Farrell aatd Twenty-six districts In Oregon have made applications for loans. Ellen burg of this city, who Is chairman for the program. Major General George A. White of Salem, commanding the 41st divis ion. National Guard, and General Thomas E. Riles have written Major Ellenburg they plan to attend the service. According to present arrangements, the program will open with a selec tion played by the Granta Pasa high school band, after which Major El lenburg will make introductory re mark, to be followed by prayer. Tom Miller of Grants Pass, former JosrrV.lne county district attorney, will give an address, after which the band will again play and Mnjor Gen eral White will speak. All National Guardsmen of south ern Oregon, wtth Major Walter Ab bey, 240th Coast Artillery, in com mand. wl!l attend as a battalion. Thla will Include the units from Med ford. AMiland and Grants Pass. Captain Lee M. Bown of the Ore gon state police, will be in charge of all the state policemen of south west Oregon who will attend. PRISON CELL TO FOUR OFFENDERS ON GUILTY PLEAS Robert Minor, charged with the at tempted burglary of Strang's drug storo last January and who possesses a prison record, the authorities say, waa sentenced to serve two and one half yeara In state prison by Circuit Judge H. D. Norton Saturday morn ing. This Is the maximum sentence for an attempted burglary. W. J. Copley, charged with burg lary not in a dwelling was sentenced to three years In state prison, and Robert Moore, ,hls partner In crime, was given a two-year sentence for burglarizing the Medford Book store. Ocne A. Drove, waa sentenced to five yeara In state prison for thelt of an auto. He had a long crime record, extending over ten years. Phil Hale and LeRoy Wright, local residents, charged with violation of the liquor laws, were sentenced to six months In the county Jail, and sentence suspended. The case of James Coleman, charg ed with non-support, has been delay ed until Monday morning, when Coleman's wife will appear In court. Harold Berry, taken Into court on a check charge, was sentenced to six months In the county Jail, and such sentence suspended pending his good behavior. Rodney Craig, 18, and Malcolm Mc Donald, 17, who were charged with atealing a tarpaulin belonging to the Southern Pacific company, were tak en before Judge E. B. Day, In Juve nile court. Both are residents of Oakland, Calif., and not having any previous record. Judge Day made arrangements for the two youths to be taken to the U. 8. transient borne at Talent, and from there, be sent to their homes.
