Rex Barnett of Grants Pass will again bead the patrol, following a suce&sful year In the capacity of captain. - Under th direction of Bar nett, the Klllab patrol hat appeared In Shrine parades In San rranclaco and Los Anxeles, Cal.. Reno. Her., Portland. Ore., and various southern Oregon communities, bringing con siderable publicity to both the south ern Oregon Shrine temple and this section of Oregon. Paul B. Rynnlng of Medford will again serve as first lieutenant of the patrol, while the second lieutenant position will be held by Sam Stlne baugh of Grants Pass. Pour Medford men will fill the other offices In Hlllah'a marching organisation. Bert Peasley will esaln act as business manager. Herb Orey will again fill the office of publicity manager, Ralph Sweeney will continue to serve as treasurer and Carl Glasgow will re main as quartermaster. At last night's Interesting session In Grants Pass, addresses were made by Hlllah's new potentate, O. O. Alen derfer of Medford, Post-Potentates E. C. "Jerry" Jerome of Medford and A. K. Cass of Grants Pass, snd Director Dade Terrett of Medford. 25 CARS FRUIT Pear hlpmnt from Medford dis trict for the week ending last night totalled 14 cars of pears and nine of applee, bringing the total for the seanon to 1.742 pears and 113 apples. There remains la storage close to 450 cars of pears. Shippers report good prices for D'AnJous. The district at torney's office said there were not as many non-support complaints as at other sessions, however, and attrib uted this to CWA work and other Job project. In the case of Manzle Btdcn, 29. local resident, bound over for alleged contributing to the delinquency of a 17-year-old girl, was before the grand Jury. The girl, in testimony in justice court and Juvenile court, de fended Btden and claimed "there wns nothing wrong." She asserted that Blden befriended her and Invited her to "stay at his house," as an act of friendship, and to help her meet an economic situation. Sisters of the girl were instrumental in se curing the arrest of Blden. OPINIONS VARY ON SWINE POPULATION FOR AM RECORDS There seema to be considerable dif ference of opinion, official and pri vate, as to the hog population of Jackson county which will come un der the hog-corn production adjust ment campaign launched here last week. Records of the assessor's office hhow 2633 hogs, of a value of 18.830, and these are the figures that ap pear on the tax rolls. The federal hog census, takeu tn 1P30 by various farmers, places the number at 6300. H. A. Llndgren of the animal hus bandry bureau of the Oregon State college, who addressed the hog-corn meeting last Tuesday, and C. C. Hoo ver, a, hog raiser, said the above fig ures were too low. and Vint there were between 15,000 and 20.000 hogs in the county. County Agent Robert O. Fowler said this morning that the federal figures "were about right," and that hog production In this section "has decreased about 40 per cent In the past ten years." The county agrnt said the number of hogs varied dur ing different seasons. County Agent Fowler expects to have the schedule of community meetings on the hog-corn production adjustment program ready by next week and will start holding them.
