PAOE ETGHT MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUXE, MEDFORD, OREGON, TUESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1934. I TRIM WSC 30-27 IN OPENING TILT BTJOENT. Ore., Jan. 9. JP Uni versity of Oregon' basketball team proved a horse of the right color In winning lti opening conference game, to to 37, from Washington State collar- )in lut nlffht. If It ahould repeat when the two team meet here tonwm, Oregon could boast as many conference vic tories as It won all last season. The Oregon fire, which Included tnnhomorea Bud and Willie Jones from Ashland Normal, had a five point lead before the dazed Cougara countered. An eight-point rally requiring less than two minutes, brought Washing ton State a IB to 18 lead in the sec ond half. Robertson's goal put Ore gon ahead again, but McPhee return ed the lead to the northern Jive. Oregon maintained the lead after Bud Jones took the ball from Scott In mid-floor, dodged goal ward on a m,twv rfrlhtale. and scored. With smooth, deft passes the Webfoot monopolized possession of the ball and prevented any iurmrr rallies. MoPhee of Washington State and Robertson of Oregon divided scoring honors with 10 points each.
