LOUGHRAN JOLTS NATIONAL LEAGUE PAGE SIX T Tommy's Negotiations for Go With Camera Leaves Old Champ With Two Fighters But No Match NEW YOHK, Dec 15. OR Piimo Camera, massive world heavyweight boxing champion, today agreed to defend Ills title against Tommy Lou Eh ran of Philadelphia, at Miami, Fla., Feb ruary 23, providing he can gain the consent of Louis Sores!, his Italian co-manager. bV iikhbkrt w. bakkkr Associated Press Snorts Writer NEW YORK, Dec. 15. (AP) Jack Dempsey's effort to break the mo nopoly Madison Square Garden long has .held on the heavyweignts naa met with a decided setback today as Tommy Loughran continued nego tiations looking to a title match with Prlmo Camera at Miami, Feb ruary 32. Dempsey still haa one leading con tender under hto wing, Max Baer, and seems to have the Inside track with another. Max Schmellng, but Lougnran's return to the Garden fold has Just about ruined the old cham pion's plans. Camera, Interviewed on his arrival, made It clear that he was ready to fight Loughran anywhere, any time so the Garden would have no trou ble from that quarter, especially since the champion already Is un der contract for a title defense un der Garden promotion. Lougaran wants the fight, too, but has been holding out for a little bigger cut than the 12'a per cent usually award ed the challenger. Loughran Confident The veteran Phlladelphlan, how- . ever. Is not likely to let a few dol lars stand In his way. He's con vinced he can whip Camera and win the heavyweight title. He's never had much trouble with the over sized heavyweights like Vlctorlo Campolo and Ray Impellltlere. With Loughran on the verge of ' signing with the Garden, Dempsey's winter plans, Involving two bouts, have been completely wrecked. Jack was to have been associated with the promotion of a Loughran -Schmellng match cither .here or In Atlantic City, January 31, and planned to match the winner with Baer In San Francisco February 22. - But Joe Smith, Loug bran's man ager, has turned down the Schmel lng bout In favor of a whack at the title, leaving Dempsey with two ; two heavyweights but no match. Since Lou &h ran haa already whipped Schmellng. there 'd be no particular point to matching them again. Should Camera beat Loughran, Dempsey and the Garden might get together and pool their resources for ! a Bacr-Carnera bout In the turn-' mer. ' jSL vll JEM 1L i ii i it if rn. i v VP? Or"? The annual major league meetings closed last night, with a decision by the magnates to adopt a uniform' ball for both big circuits and as many minor organizations as can be brought into line. The question of radio broadcasting failed to come up for official consideration and the clubs will go on for another year, handling the problem as they see fit. The trading was an exclusive Amer ican league proposition, the older clr sult failing to come up with a deal. The bulk of the unusual amount of business was accomplished by the Boston Red Sox, who obtained the Athletes' two star lefthanders, Bob Grove and Rube Walberg. and InfleM er Max Bishop. They also obtained Carl Reynolds from St. Louis, and promise to cut quite a figure in nsxt year's title race.
