Mrs. Phetteplace III Mrs. Irene Phetteplace underwent an emergency operation Wednesday afternoon at the Community hospital and an abscess war, removed, caused by a diseased appendix. Mrs. Phetteplace Is resting as easily as could be expected today. Both pictures were taken by Mr. Shangle yesterday. Attend Camp Opening From the CCC district headquarters in Medford. Major Clare H. Armstrong, Major James R. Biblghaus and Captain Har old E. Stow, plan to attedd the open ing of the new CCC camp Kerby at Selma this evening. This winter camp Is In the same location as the summer camp. A dinner and a special pro gram are being put on by the boys In the camp. Dr. VanXuys Here Dr. Walter L. Van Nuys, representative of the board of Christian education, with head quarters in Portland, arrived In Med ford today on the Oregonlan, and was met by Rev. W. J. Howell, pastor of the Medford Presbyterian church. Dr. VanNuya continued to Phoenix fom here, to start some leadership' training courses among the church workers there. Injures Shoulder Allen Whillock, 64, of route two, suffered a dlslocatrd shoulder yesterday, when he was knocked from his bicycle by the autD moblle which Chauncy Brewer of 1811 East Main street was driving. The collision occurred at the intersection of Sixth and Oakdale. Ralph Cow gill, Jr., of C04 Pennsylvania avenue, who was riding with young Brewer, was listed, as a witness em the acci dent report filed with city police. Bear Is Treated A bear In the upper Applegate section, which re ceived a broken arm this week, was the cause of much excitement within and outside the city. Quite a tussle with the animal, known as "Madame Queen," waa reported when the Hart ley boys called Clifford Cass of the auto wrecking yard to come to the scene of the accident and transport the animal to the doctor. Spllnra were put on her arm and she is now recovering. Following convalescence I she will make her home at Hl-Ho cafe in Che Pacific highway, south.
