eration for removal of tonsils at the
Community hospital yesterday.
Chimney Fire The local fire de
partment was called out Tuesday
night to extinguish a chimney fire
. at the home of County Clerk George
Carter, 821 East Jackson. No dam
age resulted from the flames.

Mrs. Phetteplace III Mrs. Irene
Phetteplace underwent an emergency
operation Wednesday afternoon at the
Community hospital and an abscess
war, removed, caused by a diseased
appendix. Mrs. Phetteplace Is resting
as easily as could be expected today.
Moving Back to RanchMrs. Harry
Pellett was shopping in Medford to
day and announced that she is mov
ing back to hec ranch in the Griffin
creek district, after making her home
for a shorV time on the Jacksonville
highway.
Mrs. PeroizI Resting D. Perozal
returned from Portland Tuesday,
where he has spent some time with
Mrs. Perozzt. who Is In Emanuel hos
pital recovering from an accident
which occurred several waaks ago,
Mrs. Perozzl la reported to be resting

River national forest, has returned to
Medford from a two-day field trip
of inspection. He visited the ECW
camp at the South Fork of Rogue
river, also the road work at Lake o'
the Woods, and buildings recently
constructed at Pelican and Seven

Visiting Here-Burt Lowry, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Burton B. Lowry, plans
to leave tomorrow for CorvalUs, where

lege. He has been spending a few

Tickets for Dance Firemen of
Medford announced today that tickets
are now out for the annual Thanks
giving hall, November 30, at the Ori
ental Gardens. Men at the fire sta
tion and volunteers are In charge of
the sale.
White In Klamath On an Inspec
tion tour of brush-burning and haz
ard reduction work, Norman C. White,
assistant supervisor of the Rogue
River national forest, left here yes
terday for the Dead Indian and Klam
ath sections. He plans to complete
the survey today.

graphs of Glenn O. Taylor and A. E
Brockway, who were yesterday ap
pointed to the state house of repre
sentatives from this county. Ac

Attend Camp Opening From the
CCC district headquarters in Medford.
Major Clare H. Armstrong, Major
James R. Biblghaus and Captain Har
old E. Stow, plan to attedd the open
ing of the new CCC camp Kerby at
Selma this evening. This winter camp
Is In the same location as the summer
camp. A dinner and a special pro
gram are being put on by the boys
In the camp.
Dr. VanXuys Here Dr. Walter L.
Van Nuys, representative of the board
of Christian education, with head
quarters in Portland, arrived In Med
ford today on the Oregonlan, and was
met by Rev. W. J. Howell, pastor of
the Medford Presbyterian church. Dr.
VanNuya continued to Phoenix fom
here, to start some leadership' training
courses among the church workers
there.
Injures Shoulder Allen Whillock, 64,
of route two, suffered a dlslocatrd
shoulder yesterday, when he was
knocked from his bicycle by the autD
moblle which Chauncy Brewer of 1811
East Main street was driving. The
collision occurred at the intersection
of Sixth and Oakdale. Ralph Cow
gill, Jr., of C04 Pennsylvania avenue,
who was riding with young Brewer,
was listed, as a witness em the acci
dent report filed with city police.
Bear Is Treated A bear In the
upper Applegate section, which re
ceived a broken arm this week, was
the cause of much excitement within
and outside the city. Quite a tussle
with the animal, known as "Madame
Queen," waa reported when the Hart
ley boys called Clifford Cass of the
auto wrecking yard to come to the
scene of the accident and transport
the animal to the doctor. Spllnra
were put on her arm and she is now
recovering. Following convalescence I
she will make her home at Hl-Ho
cafe in Che Pacific highway, south.

Jasper Displayed A large piece of
Jasper, found in the gravel and wash
near Rogue river, two or three miles
from the Dodge bridge, la on display
today at the Chamber of Commerce.
Its weight is given as 24 pounds and
the stone Is said to be capable of tak
ing a brilliant polish.
Fined In Court C. H. Amlaw, 86,
and E. Whitehead, 33, both of Grants
Pass, were each fined $10 and costs
of (4 50 In Justice court this morn
ing, following their arrest last night
by state police and a deputy sheriff.
The two men were in a Dodge coupe
which had tipped over' at the side of
the road three miles north of Gold
