"A few Instances have come to the attention of the administration in which employers have tried to hinder the filing of complaints by threaten ing to discharge employees who make complaints, or who Instruct their em ployees to say, when asked by cus tomers, that their wages and hours re In conformity with the re-employment agreement, when In fact such Is not the case," said General Hugh 8. Now for some old and tried fruit oake recipes collected from every where: Dark Fruit Cake (8 Lbs.) 1 c butter 9 o sugar 4 o flour eggs !4 brandy or fruit juice lb. chopped blanched almond 14 lb. chopped walnut meats rb. chopped dates 3 Ihs. raisins 1 lb. citron 1 lb. ftgs 1 t soda o light molasses 3 T black coffee 3 t cinnamon . 1 t cloves. Combine flour and apices, then dredge chopped fruit lightly with por tion of this mixture: cream the but ter, add sugar gradually, then the beaten eggs; add small amount of flour, then fruit and nut meats, and with the molasses; add remaining our,, then fruit and nut meats, and mix well; pour Into tins that have been lined with heavy brown paper, j well greased; allow the paper to ex tend well up the aide of the pan, ana, u you wish, cover the too with oiled paper until the cake la near:y nnisnea to protect the fruit on tne surface from over-cooking. Bake three hours In a alow oven (315 de grees). Lfrht Fruit Cake (S Lbs.) 9-9 e butter 1 c flour Yt t soda 3 T lemon Juice 0 egg whites, beaten . , lo powdered sugar 3-3 e candled cherries 14 e candled pineapple 14 c eh redd citron 1 o white raisins 1-3 e blanched almonds 3 T flour to dredge fruit. 6oak the raisins until plump, then dry with cloth and dredge with the other fruit, using the 3 T flour re served for that purpose. Cream butter well then gradually add the flour mixed with the soda; sift sugar gradually into the beaten whltea and. combine the two r-U' turee; add lemon Juice, then fruits and nuts; mix well and pour Into loaf pan lined with heavy buttered paper. Bake one hour at 325 deg. (The top of this cake may be nicely decorated with colored candled frutt, such as pineapple and cherries be- for baking, and the top protected by waxed paper during the first part of baking.) Prune Cake (5 Lbs.) 2-3 c shortening 3 c sugar ' 3 eggs, beaten 1 e light molasses 1 t soda 4 e flour 3 t baking powder t salt 1 t cinnamon . I t .cloves 1 e cider 1 o raisin ... c citron c chopped walnut meats t 1 c soft prunee 3 T flour. : Steamed prunes are heat of this cake, the natural Juice being retain ed In the fruit. Dredge the chopped fruits with the 3 T of flour: cream shortening and add sugar gradually; sift the flour with spices and add a portion to the creamed mixture be fore adding any other ingredients; dissolve the soda in the molasses and add to the first mixture at this time, then add more flour, the beaten eggs, more flour, salt and baking powder, then cider and flour alternately until all Is used, adding fruit and nuts last. Pour Into loaf pan lined with heavy brown paper, well greased. Bake two hours at 375 degrees. Sprinkle generously with brown su gar and chopped nut meats, men cover with gingerbread mixture and bake. Pen- nell, prominent Montesano real estate and insurance man, was found wrap ped In fence wire, face down, in a creek east of here last night, follow ing an accident. It was believed Pennell lost con trol of his car which plunged off the road and through a wire fence into the creek. Nearby residents heard the crash and discovered his body.
