SffiDFORDMAIL TKIBUOT, JffeErfrQWI OREGON, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 1933. SIM NEW DRIVE TO WIDEN Ml ST. Property owners of East Main atreet, who are promoting the street widening program. Interrupted at the laat meeting of the city oouncll bj tiling of protest by several firms represented on the street, announced today that two new petitions would be In circulation soon. They provide for a division of the work. The first petition will call for the widening of the street from Bartlett, east to Riverside; the second for wid ening from Riverside, east to Almond. The original petition provided for widening the street from Front to Almond. During the time elapsing since It waa presented the council, however, several property ownera have bad a change of heart, and atgned the protest petition, brought before the council last week. The finance, and atreet and rosd committees with Al Llttrell and W. M. Clemenson as chairmen, met yes terday to consider again the city's agreement to widen the Bear Creek bridge if the street widening was ac complished by the property owners. The committees came to no decision and It Is probable that the new peti tions of the property owners will be presented before the second meeting of the two committees. When the city Included In the budget, funds for widening of the Bear Creek bridge, It was with the vnderstsndlng that the atreet widen ing, exclusive of the bridge, would be financed by the property owners.
