On Tours Today COC recruit in the various camps in the southern Oregon distriot are going on sight seeing tours today, in the vicinity of their camps, according to officials at headquarters here. Officers at the camps will bo in charge of the trips. To Diamond Lake Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Murphy left Saturday morning for Diamond Lake, where they plan to spend several days at their cabin. Camps Now Have 200 Enrollment In all of the COC camps in the dis triot r placed at 200 yesterday, making i necewary to enroll three for Mount Reuben camp. They were enlisted from Josephine county. Professor Relmer Leaves Professor F. C. Relmer of the experiment sta tion near Talent, left last evening by train for Stevensvllle, Mich., on business and pleasure trip. Plead Not Guilty Three men, held on charges of obtaining money undor false pretenses, entered pleas of not guilty when taken before Justice of the Peace L. A. Roberts at Ashland Friday. They were Aubrey White, 38, Ralph V. Williams, 31, and Clarence W. Bickel, 31. The three are being held in the Jackson county Jail. Reported Lost Stat police were Informed late Friday night that Mrs. Sr. rah Jones, age 03, had disappeared from the home of Juanlta Handley at Ashland, and had not been located. Her brother residing in Ashland told officers that his sister might possibly have gone to the home of another brother, George Fields at Provolt. Interested In Work-Karl L. Janouch of the forest service stated yesterday that the CCC boys working in the forest camps were very Interested :n the work, and that special attention is being given towards Instructions for the young men. Mechanical work, caprentry and road building are be ing stressed in the training, he said. ... Janouch Completes Tour-The roads into Lake o" the Woods, both via Medford and Klamath Falls, are in a better condition than ever before, a result of work being done by the CCC army, Karl L. Janouch, assist ant supervisor of Rogue River nation al forest reported yesterday. Mr. Ja nouch had Just returned to Medford from a general Inspection tour which took him to Moon Prairie, Lake o" the Woods, and Upper Rogue river camp. Hand Badly Injured Mrs. Ruth Lewis' young son was taken to the Community hospital yesterday to re ceive treatment for severe lacerations of the hand, sustained In a fall from the porch at his home, where he landed on a piece of glass which left a deep cut. OF - TALENT Mrs. Lorella Burnett, 22, of Talent, wife of Howard Burnett, died last night at the Sacred Heart hospital following an operation for ruptured appendix. She was brought to the hospital late yesterday afternoon and her condition had become so serious there waa little chance for recovery She leaves, beside her husband, an IB months' old baby. Ben Hur Lampman, famed editorial writer of the Portland Oregonian, visited the Rogue River valley Sat urday, on a hurried vacation trip It was his first trip here in eleven years. He spent most of the day with his mother, Mrs. H. H. Lamp man, and calling on old friends and visiting familiar scenes. He did not catch a glimpse of Jim Dinkens or Beagle. Lampman left today for Portland, by way of Crescent City and the Oregon coast. He Is accompanied by his wife. Foot Correction Expert Coming To Miller Office Announcement has been made by Dr. H. E. Miller of 205 Liberty build ing, that he has obtained the serv ices of an expert foot correctlonlst who will be in his offices tomorrow and Tuesday, July 17 and 18. Dr. Miller states that the examination is free, and that appointment may be made by telephoning his office. KADO TAKES I T John Z. Kado, one of the most popular members of Medford's Jap- anese colony, left yesterday for Seat tle to assume the presidency of the Asahi Industrial ' and Trading com pany. This new importing and ex porting firm with the head office In Seattle. Wash., and branch of fices in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, represents the Takenaka Shoten, Ltd., of Osaka, the Dailchl Klkai flhokat of Tokyo and the Safety Mo tor Car company, Ltd. Mr, Kado has been a resident of Medford for 27 years, having come here from Japan In July. 1906. and has proved to be one of Medford'a most loyal citizens. He first went to work here for Mrs. T. E. Daniels, after which he worked at the Nash Hotel for several years. In 1914, John took the position of steward of the local Elks club, serving In this capacity for eight years. He later accepted the position of custodian of the home office building of the California Oregon Power company. With which firm he has been affil iated for 15 years. He has hundreds of friends In the Copco organization and among the Medford business men who wish him the best of suc cess in his new business venture. Mr. Kado expressed his sincere re gret at leaving Medford and hta many local friends and voiced his appreciation of the kind treatment and cooperation which he has re ceived while a resident of this city. He also extended a cordial invita tion to hta many friends to visit him in his new location at 312 Sixth avenue South in Seattle. Friday night Mr. Kado waa the guest of honor at a stag dinner given for him by a group of his friends of the Copco organization and local business men. He was presented with several attractive gifts includ ing a traveling bag from the Copco Forum and a desk set from the group at the dinner. , In leaving, John stated that Med ford had been his home town for 27 years and he would always feel this to be his home regardless of future locations. He expects to travel through here on business trips trom time to time and will atop ofl to see his local friends. A large num ber of Medford people went to the depot to see him leave on last night's train for the north. WATER WASTING WILL BE CURBED Too much water Is being wasted In the city of Medford and too many people are leaving the water on dur ing fires, Robt. A. Duff of the city water commission, announced yes terday, urging more care on the part of the public In Intelligent use ol water and observance of the fire rules. All hydrants should be shut off during fires to make the needed pressure possible, Mr. Duff stated, and If this rule Is not more closely observed in the future more severe penalties will be attached. It Is estimated that an ex penditure of ,100.000 In the tower system here will give employment for 75 men for an eight months per iod. To complete the Job It will take 00 thousand man working hours. In addition to this, employment naturally will be created In those plinta which supply materials such a, sand and gravel plants and others. The sewage disposal plan worked out by the Chamber of Commerce and passed by the city council Is one of many In the Pacific North west which It la hoped to finance through the aid of the Reconstruc tion Finance corporation. In Ore gon alone the following cities have applied for funds to either build new sewage ystema or rehabilitate old systems: Astoria, Baker. Eugene, Mc- Mlnnvllie, Portland, Boseburg. Salem, and Medford. In the state of Wash ington, over 35 application have been submitted by communities for funds to perfect sewage syatenu. The city of Baker recently voted 104,000 for a sewage disposal plant and altnougn already approved by the voters, expect to finance it through the R. P. C. It 1 believed that the employment lde of the public works program will be given considerable attention and there can be no doubt, It Is pointed out by chamber official, that a project to employ 75 men for eight month 1 worthy of earnest thought by the citizen of Medford.
