July 14. (AP) Th death of George Kotaon&roa In a pro-1 sale -tu to mobile accident near here I closed a story-book career the Greek wrestler pursued on the theory that "When a man's number la up, It's up." Educated In Athens, Kotsonaroa fought In the Balkan war of 1912 against the Turks and saw comrades fall on all sides. "Don't worry," he would say. "When & man's number la up, It's up" It wasn't up for Kotsonaroa In the Balkan war and It wasn't up w.hen he got caught In a street fight In Cairo between Mohammedans and Christians. He was wounded by the Turks but recovered. In his career In the ring and the movies, Kotsonaroa had his nose smashed, was in many bad falls and In an airplane crash but his num ber wasn't up. A wrestler couldn't fill a date In Nashville, Tenn., this week and Kot sonaroa substituted. He was driving to New Orleans with John Paul Jones, Texas wrestler, yesterday. The cat skidded In gravel and overturned. Jones was seriously in jured. Kotsonaroa, who police be lieve went to sleep at the wheel, was killed. His number was up. t BASEBALL Yesterday's Results Coast League At Oakland 1, Portland 7. At Hollywood 9, Mission 7. At Ean Francisco 2, Los Angeles 8. At Sacramento S, Seattle 4. In easy fashion after spotting "Scotty Dawklns of Boston the first tumble In the main event on last night's wrestling card at the armory. Dawklns, who performed with ' less buffoonery than he showed In his last match here, took the first fall in 18 minutes with a body pteas after softening "Terrible Ted" with a series of Sonnenbergs. Thye came back for the second fall, however, and bat tered Dawklns all over the ring with shoulder butts to make the rough Scott say uncle In six minutes. Dawklns was again the man eater when they came out for the third and deciding fall, sending Thye to the mat several times with rabbit punches and Sonnenbergs, until Thye shot his elbow to "Scotty's" midriff and quickly ended, the match with another aeries of shoulder butts. The bout was rough, with both men freely using all the tricks of modern Joint-wreckers., Dawklns' pet "hold" was a stiff right to the Jaw, while it looked to the uninitiated like Tbye's best bet was a swift back-handed swipe to the ellybay. A lively exchange of cuffs between Dawklns and Referee Lea Welaa was an unadvertlsed feature on the pro gram. The two came to blows when Referee Welas doubted "Scotty'a" Bostonese culture In trying to drop- kick Thye into the second row seats. Ray Frlble, Medford's grappling fireman, and Al Karaslck, Russian Lion, went the full hour In the semi final without a fall, the match end ing in a draw. Karaslck Is probably the best man Prlsble has met in the local arena, and the fireman looked good In meeting the Russian on even terms. Early In the bout the pair Indulged In a wicked exchange of lefts and rights In a neutral corner, from which Friable emerged with a blood smeared face. After this unethical tilt the men stuck to wrestling fairly well, with Friable using a wrist lock to advantage amd Karaslck trying for a fall with his chiropractic headlock. In the closing seconds Friable caught Karaslck with a series of Sonnenbergs that left the Russian Lion droopy as the bell ended the match. Pete Belcastro, belligerent Italian. a favorite performer with local fans, challenged the winner of the main event., or any heavyweight. Swede Anderson climbed Into the ring to accept the challenge and Promoter Mack LUlard closed the match on the spot as the aeml-wlndup on next weeks all -heavyweight card, which will feature Bob Kruse, Oswego farmer and Bob Nelson of Portland. Despite the warm weather, one of the best crowds of the season wit nessed the card.
