The proof for this statement la provided by the records of candy shops where men are doing the heavy buying of candy bars, especially chocolate bare. Ten thirty in the morning and about four o'clock in the afternoon find the candy merchants busy .supplying the chocolate candy desires of men all over the country- Theae are periods of low vitality and nibbling a few bites of the delectable, chocolate bar Is a favorite method of quickly pick ing up a fresh supply of energy. An other popular uae of chocolate Is the flavoring of milk for children who dislike the taste of plain milk. How ever, one does not need to look for reasons to use chocolate. It Is per hape the moat popular flavor at the present writing and any dish showing the rich brown color la sure to be a favorite in any gathering.' Molded Pudding. 2 tablespoon gelatine 1 cup cold milk 3 cupa milk, scalded 1-3 cup sugar 14 cupa ground chocolate yA teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup whipped cream. ' Soak the gelatine in cold milk while scalding the two cups of milk. Com bine sugar, salt and chocolate and add to the hot milk. When boiling remove from heat and add the cold milk with gelatine. Cool and when about to set. add the whipped cream and vanilla with folding action. Pour Into molds and chill. Garnish with dot of whipped cream flavored with mint. Chocolate Meringues. 3 egg whites yA teaspoon cream of tartar 4 cup augar 3'4 tablespoons ground chocolate 14 teaspoon vanilla Vanilla ice cream. Beat egg whltea until frothy then add cream of tartar and continue beatin until stiff. Sift together sugar and chocolate and add gradually to firt mixture.- folding until well mixed. Add vanilla. Drop from tea- ' apoon on. floured tin. Bake one hour at 275 degrees. Place one on each side of a slice of Ice cream for a serv ing. Chocolate Maple Sauce. (For Cake or Ice Cream) l' cups evaporated milk .34 teaspoon gelatine 2 teaspoons cold water 1 cup maple syrup a; cup ground chocolate 4 egg yolks 1 teaspoon vanilla P. Q. salt. Scald the milk. Soften gelatine in cold water, add to hot milk and stir until dissolved. Heat syrup and chocolate in double boiler, mix well and pour over egg yolks. Stir until slightly thickened, then chill. Beat the chilled milk until thickened, aad vanilla and salt, then blend thor oughly with chocolate mixture. Chill and serve on Ice cream or cake. Chocolate Milk Shake. 1 cup evaporated milk 3 tablespoons chocolate .syrup Cracked ice 1 teaspoon grated orange rind. Syrup 14 cups cocoa 1 cold water 2 cups sugp.f v 2 teaspoons vanilla P. O. sa'.t. Cook cocoa and .water together, stirring until smooth and to the boil ing point, atlr In sugar and aalt and continue cooking until they are dis solved. Boll three minutes, add fla voring and cool. Chocolate Sunshine Cake. s-4 cup egg whltea - 'i teaspoon salt 3i teaspoon cream of tartai 1 teaspoon vanilla H cup egg yolks cup flour '4 cup cocoa li; cups sugar. Beat whites with salt and cream of tartar. Fold In sifter sugar and va nilla. Beat yolks to light, thick stage and fold into first mixture. Finally fold In the flour and cocoa which have been sifted five times. Pre heat oven to 250 degrees. Place cake in oven and reset to 350 degrees. Bake one hour. Ini tiative lor the repeal of the two atate prohibition emendmenta coat 13,518.18 thla report atated. George Bylander, who filed the Initiative report, however, failed to make an estimate of the money to be expended between the completing of the petmona and the election. Re queat for thla estimate waa made by the department of atate. Contribution! toward the expendi ture totaled the same amount, the report ehowed. Petition clrculatora received amounta ranging from $30 to 1S0. Among the larger contributor were the Henry Welnhard company. Port land. $1380; California State Brewery association, $300: Multnomah Hotel Operating company, $100; John W. Blodgett, Jr., 8100; Portland Hotel company. Imperial Hotel. Heathman Hotel, Nev, Heathman hotel and West ern Storper company each contributed 850. Report of expenditure on the refer endum agninst the four-cent oleo margarine tax haa not yet been re ceived. This la the only other report to be filed on measures to be voted upon on July 21. All other meaaures on the ballot were referred by the atate legislature. Divorce (.runted According to the Grants Pass Dally Courier, a divorce decree was signed In the Josephine county circuit court yeaterday by Judge Harry D. Norton for Margarita R. Rush, when she appeared with Gus Newbury aa attorney in the suit, un contested by C. R. Rush. It waa agreed the household furniture should go to Mrs. Rush, and conditional sales con tracts and other Indebtedness to be assumed by Mr. Rush. Custody of Charles R. Rush, Jr., was awarded the mother, and It was provided that Rush contribute (20 a month to the child's support until he la 18, unless the court should rule otherwise. Sift together the flour and baking powder. Mix the oeaten eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla, then combine all and beat one minute with rotary beater. Bake in a loaf at 375 degreea for 45 min utes.
