Their hitting hardly could have been Im proved upon, they got effective pitch ing from Bill Swift, and ployed error less ball In the field. Swift Provei Puzzle. Swift, winning hi third victory In four starts, . wis mowing down the Phil with a minimum of effort. The young righthander allowed nine hit but Burt Shotton'a club found him a comolete nuzzle in the pinches. A matter of fact, the Phillies were trangely docile for an outfit that walloped the Pirate 27 times out of 44 meetings in the last two seasons. Swift's performance was new evi dence of the surprising strength of Olbson'e pitching taff. In H games, Pirate fllnger have pitched 10 com plete contest. The only other game played In the major yesterday aaw Oral HUdebrand, youthful righthander of the Cleve land Indiana, stop the Chicago White Sox with five hit for sn 8-1 victory, hi fourth' in a row without de feat.
