Misv Hauk Is a senior In Medford high school and plans to enter the university next fall. Sew ing will be followed by tea. Building Bridge Club Has Festive Afternoon The home of Mrs. 0. A. Hartley was fragrant with many blossoms yesterday afternoon, when members of the Building Bridge club met there for the usual round of cards. Mrs. Hartley was assisted as hostess by Mrs. A. v. Qrsves. Large baskets of lilacs and uis were placed about the rooms and other spring flowers added to the beauty of the setting, where five ta bles of cards were In play. High prize at bridge was awarded Mrs, Kenneth Murray. The next meeting of the bridge club will be held at the - home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C, Kelly, where Mrs. Paul Gretner will be hostess Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Teachers' Chorus Meets Tomorrow. There will be a meeting tomorrow morning at the high school audito rium of the Jackson County Teachers' chorus at 10:30 o'clock. Miss Harriett Baldwin, director of the chorus, has returned from the music conference In Seattle and will have many Inter esting things to report to the chorus members. Numbers to be sung at Central Point In the near future will be re hearsed tomorrow morning and a large attendance la urged. PI Beta Phis Observe"" Founders' Day Tonight. D. 0., today said that 3.000,000 in private capital Is avail able for preliminary financing of a toll orldge across the Columbia river at Astoria. The bridge would cost $7,000,000. I E TO GOVERNMENT ROSEBURO, Oregon, April 38. (AP) Transfer of the Oregon state soldiers home to the federal govern ment has been authorized for May 8, according to word received this mor ning by Colonel E. P. Tandy, man ager of the Northwest National Sold' lers Home here. The present Oregon home Is to be made a part of the veterans administration facility here. Authority for the transfer was given by the state legislature two yeara ago and deeds were signed by the state board of control and have been placed In the hands of the veterans administration, awaiting the time for the Inclusion of the property Into the national home for the .Paclflo north west area. Examination of the 100 men now being cared for in the state 'home was started this morning by Dr. James G. Donnelly, chief medical of ficer of the . national home here. Population of the state home has de creased quite rapidly since the sign ing of the economy bill, as many of the veterans lacked qualifications for admission to the national home and accepted discharges. There are about 70 world war veterans now at the state home and It Is expected that nearly one-half of this number will be unable to secure admission to the national home, due to the restric tions Imposed by the national econ omy act. It is anticipated that all civil and Spanish war veterans now at the state home will be accepted In the federal Institution. The state home, established here by an act of the legislature In 1893, has In recent years cost the state of Oregon, approximately .945,000 an nually. Since 1009 the federal gov ernment has contributed $10 month ly to the state at Oregon for the sup port of veterans in the home. Veteran Humane ! " Officer Passes PORTLAND, April 28. I HOOD RIVER, Ore.. April 28. (AP) With the blossoming season reach ing the peak, many local growers re port discovery of severe damage to cherries as the result of sub-zero weather last winter. The bloom Is heavy, but because of the freezing the blossoms are dropping heavily instead of setting. The strawberry crop, too, win be the lightest in years, the growers predict.
