Kunz last Monday eve ning, April 3rd. There were only about nine members present but quite an amount of work was ac complished and delicious refresh ments were served by the hostess. The dinner and dance given by the Ashland Legion post and Its auxil iary was well attended by Medford Legion post and Its auxiliary. During dinner a program of vocal and Instrumental music was pre sented. After dinner the state of ficers presented their messages. Mr. Paul McDonald, first vice commander of the state of Oregon, brought a message from the 1933 convention city, Klamath Falls. Mrs. Waive En ders, district president of the state of Oregon, told of her recent visit to Lakevlew and Klamath Falls. The two major objectives of the auxiliary are child welfare and national de fenae. All are urged to make them selves familiar with these subjects. The Legion posts are making rehab ilitation their major objective. The next speaker was Jack Eaktn. com mander of state of Oregon. The first duty , of every Legion and auxiliary member Is to the United States and to our president. We are banded together for many purposes but the main ones are "To uphold and de fend the constitution of the United States," "To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent American Ism" and "To consecrate and sancti fy our association by our devotion to mutual helpfulness." The nat ional commander of ttie Legion places his faith In the fairness and con sideration of President Roosevelt and believes that this new act will do away with any unfair or . unjust claims and that the country can be-, gin a new program of rehabilitation of the disabled veterans of the world war with a clean slate. National Commander Johnson has placed in the hands of the president the entire facilities of the Legion's national re habilitation committee, that he may have the expert advice and exper ience of these American Legion of ficials who have devoted their lives to the rehabilitation of the disabled veterans. Monday evening, April 10th, will be the regular social meeting of the auxiliary at the club . rooms In the armory. The meeting will start at 8:00 p. m. Don't forget the Easter Monday ball, Monday evening, April 17th, at Oriental Gardens. Building Bridge-to .Meet After Easter. The Building Bridge club will not meet again until after Easter, It was announced last week. D. A. R. News Plans for the April meeting of the Crater Lake Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, as printed In the year book, have been changed and the meeting will be beld at Mrs. R. O. Beach's home, 113 Gen eve avenue, on Saturday, the 15th, at two o'clock. Mesdames Warren, Snedlcor, Newman and McElhose will assist Mrs. Beach. Delegates who attended the state conference at Eugene will give their reports and candidates for chapter officers for 'the coming year will be nominated. Sunny Sisters to Meet At Clement Home The Sunny Sisters of the Pres byterian church will meet at the home of Mrs. Clement. Tuesday aft ernoon at 2:00 o'clock. The next regular meeting of the local union Is Thursday, April 13, at the "Y" at 3:00 p. m. Grahams Return To Home on CticU-o Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Graham have been Medford visitors for a few days, returning from San Diego, where they spent the winter, to their home on the Chetco river. Garden Club Hears of Spray Materials L. P. Wilcox, county agent, told members of the Garden club Thurs day evening about spray materials and chemicals used In control or plant diseases or Insect pesU that affect plant life. Directions for the use of fungi cides and of Insecticides were given with the suggestion that prevention, rather than cure be planned. The speaker recommended the use of material containing sulphur or copper sulphate In dealing with fungi, using lime sulphur, either liquid or dry, Bordeaux mixture, either com mercial or home-made, dusting sul phur or manganar, a DuPont pro duct. As Insecticides for "chewing" In sects contact materials such as oil emulsions, lime sulphur, black leaf 40 and pyre th lan for the "sucking" type of Insect or garden pest, poi sons such as arsenate of lead, arsenate of calcium and fluorine were men tioned and Instructions as to care and mixture given. Three In one dust for general purposes recom mended. Other chemicals used In eradication of soil pests. In seed and seedling treatments and general bait mate rials were enumerated. Directions for mixing small quan tities for common sprays were given. 1. Lime sulphur liquid, Va gal. to 5 gallons water. 3. Dormant oil emulsions. 1 quart to 6" gallons water. 3.
