The taxes have been cut tho onme way the wood In backyards are cut, In August, t The situation haa cooled down to a point where only a lawyer uoei the Word WHEREAS. A partial confession Is made, and It la admitted wlin violet mocesij that the new. president la a good man, but haa borrowed many or his leading Ideas from tho gent hiding behind the statesman, diplomat, ana eminent economist from Galls Creek. The rumor that all the gall la due to tho creek overflowing, was pro. nounced baseless. The president waa called upon to fire his cabinet and hire the source of his Ideas. Thus he could practice some of the econ omy he has been preaching. Why ahould the president fool around with a cabinet of 13 men, when one man Is available who can do a better Job, and be more Interesting. (It Trij proposed that Mr. Roosevelt pay for the stolen Ideas with the poat- masterattlp.) Hurrah! for the one1 man cabinet! Several damnable bluffs were called. More answered than were called. Many Bunklvlataa wore more Interested In watching a mart with a shovel, than chasing the ras cals out, to chase more rascals In. There waa considerable unseemly laughter, particularly among - the criminals, who wore told that they were present, not knowing it before. It Is also ordered that there should be a table. Nothing puts a table In Its place any faster than to thump It, with a right-handed awing, from a away out In the country. What If a knuckle doe awell up bigger than an English walnut? i People have been asking about tha Scrip. They have the par value of a Bull Durham coupon. The French men during the Great War, took the B. Durham coupon for money. The valley Is out of Frenchmen Just now. Enough will be Imported to take care of tho local scrip. Bring your Scrip turesnot your Scrip. An orator asked, "who built the courthouse?" Tho records show that It waa built by a man by the name of Hoffman. Good Job. The unemployment ahould be re duced. Keep busy. Write the gov ernor, or visit the grand Jury. Klda with roller skates have start ed using the basement floor of the courthouse for a skating rink. THE LITTLE GANGSTERS! Brill Sheet Metal Works. . Good Work Medford! ' i 'ua prompt action of Medford merchants, through their Chamber of Commerce, resulting in the adoption of a scrip program, sounds like old times. The spirit of cooperation, enthusiasm, and enterprise, so laoking the past few months so paralyzed by internal dissen sion and strife, SUDDENLY came to life from the shock of a new crisis, and today the wheels of local business are turning again. TPHE Chamber of Commerce which supplied the medium; the Chamber committee which supplied the leadership, are both to be oommended, The scrip plan is praotical and sound. It deserves the hearty support of every eitizen, and we port, when its provisions are clearly understood. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IT, GO TO THE CHAM BER OF COMMERCE, OB TO IT EXPLAINED. There is nothing new about has pulled communities successfully out of former fingnoial jams; with proper public understanding and support, it will pull them out of this one. ALL that is needed is a little of that old time Medford spirit, whinh is rAnnnntaihlo fnt tha nrntnnf lminnliinfr i9 tliA nlnti and has only to be sustained, to So let's go to it, Brethren! This is a job we can do OURSuLYES ! Give It a WE LIVE under a representative government. Our repre flftntnt.ivpa in the lfl&inlnt.nr nrn nrinnf. fn ndinnra These representatives of the weeks of discussion and paintnking investigation, passed a sales tax. At the outset of the session a majority in both Houses op posed a sales tax. But the MORE the entire tax problem was studied, particularly the absolute necessity of radically reducing the property tax, the more CERTAIN it became, that SOME sort of sales tax was ESSENTIAL. A HIGHER income tax wag passed, tithing taxes were ap- proved, the intangibles tax was retained, but even then, to balance the budget a sales tax was mandatory. All in all, we believe the legislature did a good job, of solv ing the tax problem. We also believe that this tax program, the result of many weeks of careful study and exhaustive dis cussion, should be given a fair trial before any attompt to mod ify or ohange it is'made. TTOE proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let's see how this . plan works, BEFORE we seek, through direct legislation, to upset it, ' If a referendum en the sales tax or other features of the program is unavoidable, then let's start studying the tax situa tion NOW, let's inform oursolvcs as to just why our represen tatives took the action thoy did of self-interested politicians, .and work they have done. This is not only good sense, we as a people yield SOME authority to our representatives, give them SOME moral support, then representative govern ment will have to be abandoned entirely. The Saks Tax THE opposition to a sales tax, proceeds largely from a failure to realise that it is an EMERGENCY tax. There is a strong prejudice deep-seated feeling that it places an undue burden upon the poor man particularly upon the farmer. Suoh opposition might be justified during normal times, but these times are not normal. Far abnormal. If the budget could be balanced without some form of sales tax, no one would be for it. But And the more one studies the truth I revealed. , lOREOVER if state bankruptcy is to be avoided, the tax on real property particularly on farm property MUST be radically reduced. To do this, under present conditions, an income tax is insuf ficient, tithing taxes ae insufficient, an intangible tax Is insuf ficient but these taxes, "WITH some form of sales tax, ARE sufficient. 'T'HERE is the matter in a nutshell. And it was because the members of the legislature after studying the problem from all angles, came to realize this, and only because of that that the sales tax finally passed. THERE is another point. The claim that the sales tax is lininaf tn Mia faiman will nnf e.nnJ .,).. " a sv II ai uvra, Dlllliu UJJ UllUCr ladl J BIS. What is killing the farmer economically! The tax on his land. Mail Tribune favors the sales tax , aa the best tax to meet the present critical situation. It is also a tax auto matically collected, immediately paid, and painlessly assumed. (Ah-hsh, our friend means physic constipation, not "nervous." Just what I have been trying to teach the public for years that 98 per cent of all such trouble Is purely a bad habit, and the wiseacre layman cultivates the bad habit from fear Inspired In his untutored mind by the dire con sequences our great American nos trum and quackery Interests con- atantly tell the Wiseacre population 1 will befall if one "neglects" the "regulation" of the bowels.) During the 11 years I moved several times, went on vegetable diets, and even lived lor a year on the plan advised by your good friend Dr. 1 (The charlatan mentioned Is no friend of mine and what's more he Isn't a physician at aU, but Just a fake "Doctor," a fellow who has as sumed this title.) Last year my family left me for an extended vacation and I v was left alone In the bouse. The very next day after they left my bowel action was perfect and re mained so until the return of my family, when the old trouble set In again. My observations are that If I could live In a house all by my self . . . but when I live with others, my nerves cannot rest, but contract the bowels under neath the naval and so close up. . . To me all this Is puzzling be cause I was raised as the oldest of six noisy boys and was never lit and never a bit constipated when I was at home . . . The veins are very blue and noticeable, tho quite fine and not swollen much- In my occupation, however, they are a serious handicap. I am a mem ber of the chorus. . . Miss F. D. Answer If the veins are at all swol len, the chemical obliteration treat ment Is best. Any up to date phy sician can give the treatment, with out detaining you more than an hour. For obliterating mere venules whicn show as blue lines, electro-desicca tion is satisfactory. For that you must consult either a physician who is a skin specialist or one who is skilled In surgical diathermy. Tattoo. Please Inform me lf It Is possible to remove tattooed designs from the skin. My young son was foolish enough to have a picture put on his arm, and Is now very anxious to get rid of It. M. B. 8. Answer Such mutilation Is a badge of shame. It might as well be let tered "MORON." The only vay to remove the blemish is surgical dissec tion, and filling of the defect oy skin grafting. Sometimes the eosmetio appearance may be improved by chemical tattooing. Pica. Babies usually get over the pica at the age of two or three years. But you must see that he chews no painted things. (Copyright, John F. Dine co.) Lydla Powers, Talent. Eleanor Powers. Talent. C. H.
