PAGE THREE IRRIGATION DIST. !E STEP E Talent and Medford Irriga tian Districts Look for Help in Bill Authorizing State to Waive Obligations Tbe first steps In the refinancing of the Talent and Medford Irrigation districts have been taken with the passage by the legislature of house bill 79, which authorizes the recla mation commission of the state to waive all or part of the obligations of the Irrigation districts to the state of Oregon. The state reclamation commission Is composed of the gov ernor, the secretary , of state aid the state treasurer. The effect of the bill will be that the state reclamation commission will have the authority to waive the Indebtedness of the various Irriga tion district of the state, providing the commission Is satisfied that a refinancing agreement has been reached with the bondholders of the various Irrigation districts which Is within the ability of the districts to meet. Agreement Reached The Indebtedness of the Talent Ir rigation district to the state Is ap proximately $210,000 and the Med ford district approximately $100,000. The state debt is about 20 per cent of the total Indebtedness of the Talent and 10 per cent of the Med ford district. The Medford district has already reached a tentative agreement with Its bondholders, as published in the Mall Tribune several months ago. The board of directors and officers of the Talent district conferred last week with Chrla Bell, a Portland at torney representing the bondholders. No definite plan was agreed upon, but the directors feel that consider able progrecs was made In adjusting the differences between the bond holders and the district, and that an agreement will be reached which will permit the district to take care of It obligations to the bondholders and with substantial relief to the land owners of the Talent district. Bill Is Reviewed House bill 79 was introduced early In the present session of the legisla ture and failed of passage upon Its third reading. Through the efforts of the Jackson county delegation the bill was referred to the committee on taxation and assessment tor fur ther consideration. Attorney Prank P. It was given a favorable report out of the committee and passed by both houses. The officers and directors of the two districts are highly pleased with the passage of the bill, which will pave the way for the flninclal re organization of the irrigation districts of the state.
