Whn Southern Oregon Normal banktbaU team clashes with the Multnomah Athletic club tonight at Ashland and Saturday at Med ford, the flow of pleasant memory will tug at the rival coaches, Hobson ox the Sons and Brook of the club. Seventeen years -ago In Portland, two persons met; one a youngster not jet in hi 'teens but fired with an ambition to play basketball; the other young coach not far out of his 'teens and with equal ambition to be a developer of great teams. Both have seen their ambitions realized, for the youngster made the team, the first he bad ever played on; and the coach, at the head of that team, haa since risen to prominence as a maker of champions. The youngster was Howard Hobson. And the coach was Ray Brooks. They meet again, these two who started at the bottom together and are now near the top, and they w'U throw at each other two of the strongest teams In the state. All the terrific power, the strength and great height of the Sons, Hobson will fling at his first coach. And back will come Brooks with precious experience, burning speed and team work that cornea only from years of playing together. Hobson will have Howell In there at center big, tough Howell. Brooks will have King Bailey of Oregon State to battle him. Hobson will have Len Yandle and Willie Jones at forwards, two scoring demons. Brooks will retaliate with Palmberg from Stanford and little, flashy, dead-eye Billy Keenan from Oregon. Hobson will have those Incompar able guards, Bud Jones and Dick Jocklsh. Brooks will counter with Stoatls, University of Washington, and Ray Smith, oaptaln and rated the best defensive man in the northwest.
