MEDFORD MAIL TRTBUNE, MEDFORD. OREGOX, FRTDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1933. PAGE FIVE KM ED Broadcast Schedule By L. B. SHURTLEFF Tho Norllng mine, about nine miles from Medford, being & west extension of the Opp veins, Is being equipped with a new mill and will soon be In operation on a produc tion basis that will show a good profit to the owners. The Norllng mine was located about 1900 or 1010 by John Norllng, who uncovered a rich chute of ore from which several carloads were shipped and about $15,000 taken out, one carload alone netting the own ers some $6000. The property then changed hands, passing to Frank Newman and asso ciates, who did a lot of development work on the main veins, and the property was then transferred to Wold brothers and Fred Colvig. The property was being held by location and assessment work and when min ing became Inactive, following this period, the claim was abandoned. Two years ago It was located by Charles and John Schump and some r work was done at that time and It ' was held by them until June of 1032, when It was taken over by the pres ent owners, Don Marvin and Edward Law, who paid cash for the property. Development work has been car ried on since and enough ore of commercial grade developed to sup ply a 20-ton mill for two years. More than 2000 tons of that ore that will average $15 per ton Is now In sight and the partners have a hundred tons broken down that will show recovery of better than $25 per ton. A ball mill, manufactured by Bar nett fc Hooper of Grants Pass, Is now on the way to the property, which will be equipped with gravity concentration and flotation. Mr. Law, who was in Medford re cently, arranging, through the South ern Oregon and Northern California Mining association, to have the road to the property opened up to permit ' the transfer of the mill to the prop erty, assured the writer that the In stallation of this equipment would , make the mine a profitable small producer and that, within a period of 30 days, It would be In operation, employing five or six men to start.1 This is but one of a number of like activities In a mining way that Is due to be placed on a productive basis with the assistance of a little co-operation for the Industry A number of Important matters, among which are proposed legislative enactments vitally affecting the min ing Industry of this section, are to be considered at a special meeting of the Southern Oregon and Northern Cali fornia Mining association to be held at the Chamber of Commerce rooms at Medford this evening at 7:30. A full attendance of the membership Is desired. -4- SE TO CLASHJONIGHT Central Point plays Gold Hill at Gold H1U, Jacksonville plays Rogue River, and Talent plays Phoenix at Phoenix In the seventh round of the secondary schools' basketball league of the valley tonight. Phoenix, with six wins and no defeata, now leads the league, and Central Point, with one defeat by Phoenix, holds a tight grip on second place. Central Point nearly got knocked over by Jacksonville last week, and In going to Gold Hill tonight they will have to watch the loose ends, be cause the Gold Hill boys are danger ous on their home floor. Hammersly, Walker and Kell can all shoot, and with the encouragement of the home crowd, they are apt to ring In unex pected basket. Children's frocks msde. Gladys Natwlck Shelby. 19 Garglll Court.
