Prom tha benefit card party, spon sored by Mra. Qua Newbury the sum of 48 was added to the Lions' Belief kitchen and an extra 3 waa donated by Mra. Letha English, Mra. Bess Lumsden, Mra. O. I. Hutchison and Mra. Jap Andrews, who were unable to attend the party. The regular and volunteer firemen donated $10 to the cause. Tha Cali fornia Oregon Power Co., through the courtesy of H. B. Kellum, loaned the Llona 88 cot and a mattressea, one looking glass waa donated by the Medford Plata Olasa company and 38 boxea of nice Newtown applea and some pears have been given by th Rogue River company. ELKS'lilAL Annual Ilka memorial services will be held In the Elks' temple Sunday at a p. m. with Rev, Wm. Howell giv ing tha memorial addreaa and James Stevens, accompanied by Mra. Geo. Andrewa at the piano, furnishing the vocal selections. The memorial asr vie la open to t'le publlo which I urged to attend. , Tha lodge activities an centered en eharlty work this month with a charity ball for Ilka and their guest an event of tomorrow night, and the annual Ilka' Chrlstmaa tree party for all members scheduled for next Thursday night. These two events an expected to net tha charity fund substantial amount to be used In providing Christmas: basket for the needy. It la the annual euetom of toe Elks' lodges throughout tha country to distribute Chrlstmaa basket of food and toys to tha needy families, and Medford Lodge of Ilk ha al ways stressed this work. Laat year aom two hundred families received these basket throughout tha county and indications are that an even greater number will be distributed this year. Work Is expected to start soon after the letting of the contracts. While the projects will furnish some employment to local residents, it will not be as large as many expect. High powered machinery will take the place of men, the contractors said, and the specifications of the contract are based upon Its use.
