JrEDFOTCD MXIL TRIBUTE, rEDFORD. OTfEHON, TITL"RSDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1032. PAGE FIVE! TROJANS EXPECT LOS A NOBLES. Oct. 37. Uni versity of Southern California' coach taff, to the man, fwls that their football team will have greater dif ficulty coping with California here a week from Saturday than It did with Stanford last week-end. While the fact that the Trojans hart been deprived of their greatest offensive threat aa well as a strong safety man in Orville Mohler. who was benched because of spinal in juries, is partially responsible for the attitude the progress the Bears have made as the season rolled along is given aa one reason for the opinion. "I have seen California the past three weeks." said Aubrey Devlne. S. C. scout, "and the Bears have shown improvement each time. Defensively. California Is better than Stanford. Offensively the team is Just as pow erful as Stanford but not as versatile." Coach Howard Jones had this to say: "If you remember, the start of the year I said that California would be our toughest Pacific coast opponent, I have seen nothing to change this opinion, not even California's defeats ' The loss of Mohler means that we will have a harder job than ever, It la impossible to tell how much his loss will hurt us." Jones intends to scout California In its game with Nevada Saturday, aa the Trojans will not be employed In a gridiron way this week-end. Real Estate or Insurance Leave it to Jones Phone 706. Medford'a atartlng lineup will prob ably be Davldaon and Hubler, ends: Ouyer and Santo, tackles: Dieklnaon and Brown, guards: Cave, center; CoaU and White, halves: Evans, quar ter and Bower, fullback. The midget teams from the two schools will also play a preliminary game. 4 For wool dresses knitted suits See ETHELWYN B. HOFFMANN'S Sixth ; Holly IN PELICAN TILT (By John Snider) Approaching the mid -season with only two Injuries. Coach Burgher's Tigers have sharpened and polished their claws and will be ready to rip the Pelicans to shreds Saturday, in the biggest battle of the year for both squads. In 1931. Medford defeated KlamaCi by a 8-7 score. This year the teams of both schools are noticeably stronger on account of each team having many veterans still in uni form Klamath having lost only three or four by graduation and Injuries, of whom Hammaker la the chief one with a broken collar bone, and Medford losing five or six by graduation. The line has not been announced because of Injury. Hammack will undoubtedly start at center, with Grim and Orleves driving from their ppsltlons at guard. Mlnear and Shaw, hefty tackles, will fill the line at their same positions. Llndley and Bennett will mow Interference run ners down from the ends. GUinsky, a broken field runner. will start at quarter, with one half filled either by Knlps or Scheel. Tommy White will probably be play ing at the other back, despite an in jured hand received in the Grants Pa& game. Skeets Manarud, Eugene, will act as referee, with L. L. Deal of Grants Pass as umpire. The head linesman will be Young of Ashland. Although the Bengals have many tricks In the bag, Coach Burgher stated that the prospects of winning the game were as yet undecided. The Klamath Falls News has the following to say about the Pelican lineup: "Lea Avrit. Immediately forgetting the Corvallis victory so as to drop the possibilities of too much confi dence, started work this weVk to build his team for Vie mot import ant contest of the season. "Eugene Barrows, halfback, and Jack Kniqht. end, two of the most outstanding cripples, probably will be in lineup. Both, however, will have a difficult time replacing the reserves who played so admirably against the Corvallis team. "It Isn't likely Knight, out since the first of the settson, will be far enough along to take over Lynn Propst's Job at end. Propst, star of the Corvallis game, has turned into one of the best- wingmen the Peli cans have ever had. "Barrows will fight It out with Wayne Perry for the blocking back Job. "Nello Glovanlnl, recently released i from the hospital, will probably atart at one tackle, and Clemmon 81 g ford at the other. Glovanlnl suffered an infected leg. "Johnny Pastiga and Gaylord Hayes look like the starters at guard, and Don Bradley at center. "The back field combination un doubtedly will include either Norman Taber or Wilfred Schulmire, full backs; Lewis Mc An Inch, quarterback, and Bill Mayhew. Chester Jones. Eu gene Barrows and Wayne Perry, half backs. "The record of Klamath's games with Medford Isn't available, but the Tiger assertion of an unstained rec ord has not gone without dispute. Pelican 'historians' recall one victory and one tie sgainM the valley team." SALEM. Oct. 37 AP A fire In the boiler house at the state hospital last night was checked by city fire men before it spread to the residence wards.
