By A bank is a private enterprise only so far as it is founded upon private capital, whloh is attracted as it would be to any other legitimate business. Inasmuch, however, as the bank becomes custodian of the publio's money and stands ready to serve any and all, it is a community institution. There is, then, a mutual responsibility between community and bank the bank that it temper iU serviceability with the utmost caution the publio that it expect nothing from the ' bank that would be contrary to that principle of safe oper ation. One frequently hears the remark, "Oh, that bank is too tight fisted in its loan policy." Now, when you realise the bank's chief source of income is in making loans, then that very "tlght-flstedTress" Is n indication that the depositors' proteo tion, and not the bank's profit, is the predominating policy.
