Garage Burns The city fire de partment was called to the Bill War ner place on Lozler lane yesterday afternoon to extinguish a garage fire. A little boy playing with roatchca set the fire, according to Fire Chief Roy Bllltt. The building burned to the ground. No car waa inside It at the time of the blaze. Accident Reported Mrs. Q. T. Tao kum of route one, Medford, and Carl Anderson of Jacksonville were drivers of the automobiles which figured In a collision yesterday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock at the corner of Main and Grape streets. Mrs. Yaokum was making a lefthand turn, according to their reports filed at the city police station. Miss Field Arrives Miss Ruth Field, missionary from India, arrived in Medford on the Shasta Thursday evening from Eugene to attend the missionary gathering at the First Methodist church here this afternoon. Miss Field has been attending the Columbia river branch meeting in Eugene. Money Is Found Some money, which a little girl lost on the street here yesterday afternoon, was turned over to the city police by the person who found It, according to the of ficers. The little miss who had the misfortune to drop the money may have the same by calling at the sta tion. Journey to Berkeley Mr. and Mrs. Orln M. Murphy and Herb Strang left by motor early this morning for Berkeley, Cal,. to attend the Call-fornla-St. Mary's football game at the university tomorrow. While in the south Mr. and Mrs. Murphy will visit Miss Gladys Murphy, who is a student at California. - - Take Plane South A party of men arrived In Medford on the train this morning from Portland, to take the United Airlines plane south. Chandler of Seattle arrived !n Medford this morning from the north i and spent a short time here visiting : Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Reynolds of the Holland hotel. The convention opened at 0 :S0 o'clock this morning with Miss Helen Carlton, president; of the Home Mis sionary society, presiding. The leading address of the morn ing session was given by Mrs. Paul Edwarda of Portland, conference worker of the Foreign society. Re ports were given by the various of ficers and luncnton served at noon In the church parlors. The afternoon session opened with song service, after which Rev. Alex ander O. Bennett, pastor of the local church, offered prayer. Rev. Bennett also addressed the missionary workers this afternoon. Another speaker on the afternoon's program was Mrs. R. L. Reed of Port land, conference worker of the Home society. The program la continuing thru this afternoon with other ad dresses by prominent missionary workers. At 4:30 o'clock the guests will motor to the home of Miss Carl ton on the Old Stage road for tea. A dinner will be served at the church at 0 o'clock and the evening's program will be resumed at 7 :30 o'clock. Others attending the convention, who will appear on the program, are: Ruth Field of India, Miss Mary Young of Korea, Mrs. D. J. Maple and Miss Keech, superintendent of the Manley center, and Mrs. J. J. Oerder, who will speak on Alaska. Miss Carlton will be assisted as hostess at tea this afternoon by Mrs. A. J. Oeddes of Roseburg, president for this district of the Women's For eign Missionary society. -4 TH ETO THIS AFTERNOON Instructions to the federal court Jury, hearing the trial of Pat Hogue and Jerry Marcus of Klamath Falls, and three youths, charged with con spiracy in the sale of liquor in that city, were given this afternoon by Federal Judge Alger Fee, with the convening of court. Closing argu ment were completed shortly before noon. Hogue, a taxi operator of Klamath Falls, and Jerry Marcus, alleged by the government, to be his "right hand man," are charged by the government with entering into a liquor sale con spiracy, and having used three taxi cab drivers, of high school age as dupes in the traffic. The sale of the liquor waa admitted by three of the defendants. Marcus and Hogue de nied the existence of any conspiracy. The chief evidence against them Is report of conversations, overheard by, and with federal prohibition investi gators. Testimony of the special dry agents showed that liquor was purchased through Marcus, who affected delivery by calling the taxi line operated by Hogue, and having one of the drivers make delivery. Hogue denied he rented the house used as a base of supplies, but that he paid for the telephone used In piling orders for liquor.
