In Town Today Charles Moore, forest guard for the Rogue River na tional forest, stationed at Rogue Riv er, was in Medford today to see his doctor. Mr. Moore broke his back last June, and Is now getting around on crutches. Vacations Here Miss Gertrude Chamberlain of Salem Is spending two weeks vacation in Medford as the guest of her brother and sister In-law, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. chamber lain. To Close Lodge The young women who have been employed at Crater Lake during the summer season, will leave the lake Sunday, and all of the employes from the lodge will leave the park by Sept. 20, according to in formation from the lake. Ehmke, lo cal manager of the General Petrole um Corp., left by train last evening for Portland, where he will remain two or three days, attending a man agers conference. Destroys Barn Fire at six o'clock last evening destroyed the barn at the II lines ranch, according to a re port at the city fire hall. The other buildings on the ranch were saved. No estimate could be obtained today of the loss. Accident at C. Pt. Mrs. Henry Ow ens today filed an accident report at the city police station, which occur red yesterday at the Gaber corner in Central Point. The Owens car was traveling east on Main street of Cen tral Point, and the truck driven by Ray Miller, was going north on the Pacific highway, the report shows. Expected Tonight Fred Cleator of Portland, regional forest Inspector is expected, in Medford tonight to make a survey trip to Union Creek, Lake o the Woods and other recreational areas of the valley. DIAMOND OPENING BOWLING TONIGHT The bowling season will be opened this evening, with Faye Diamond In charge of the redecorated bowling alleys at the Natatorlum, it was an nounced today. (AP) Portland chamber of commerce ex ecutives today received application forms for stock in the 11th district home loan bank to be established here as part of the federal recon struction program. Chamber officials will meet soon with representatives of savings and loan associations, Insurance compa nies and other institutions qualified to take stock In the bank. Organi zation details will be handled through" the, chamber of commerce in order to minimize organization and operating expenses. (AP) Close contests for the Republican nomination developed in two con gressional districts in the Washing ton primaries as tabulation of unof ficial returns neared completion to day. In the second district, Congress man Llndley H. Hadley had a lead of only 910 votes over Payston Peter son, Ails closest opponent. Hadley polled 13,443 votes to 12,523 cast for Peterson. In the new sixth district, composed of Pierce county and 140 precincts In King county, John T. McCutcheon polled 8,749 votes In the .Vso pre cincts reported In the 357 In the ufs trict, to 7,418 votes cast for Emery Asbury, his closest competitor. There were 117 precincts yet to be heard from. , , Two Republican candidates passed the 100,000 mark In the primary election. They were Senator Wesley L. Jones, wlfb defeated Adam Beeler for the Republican nomination, poll ing 104.070 votes in 3,308 of the 3. 682 precincts In the state to 62,326 cast for Beeler, and Lieutenant Gov ernor Jahn A. STATE COP RACER GETS ACQUITTED Edgar Smith, charged with reck less driving following an alleged race with State Policeman James O'Brien on the Jacksonville highway, was found not guilty at a Jury trial In Judge Coleman's court at Jackson ville this morning. Smith was represented by Attor ney E. E. Kelly and had filed a peti tion of prejudice against the local court, asking for a Jacksonville trial.
