Bllton. who has been 111 at his home for the past several weeks, was about town this morning, reporting that he is feeling much better. Miss Gable Leaves Miss Lee Gable left for her home In Los Angeles Wednesday evening, after an extend ed visit here with her sister, Mrs. Myrtle Arnold, and family. From Washington Registering their cars at the out-of-state bureau In Medford yesterday were L, M. Fletcher of Centralis, Fred A. Urick of Tacoma, Jasper Flood of Walville, Myrtle E. Poole of Marsyvllle and Harold P. Boss of Seattle. Arrives Today To attend to busi ness affairs of his company, R. D. Farrell, district freight and passen ger agent for the Wabash Railway company, arrived here by train to day from the north. Mr. Farrell's headquarters are in Portland. Lake Creek Callers L. H. Wyant of Lake Creek was a business caller n Medford this morning. Others from that locality were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer and daughter Dorothy, who will spend several days In the city visiting relatives and friends. From Eugene Charles Drenkhahn and family of Eugene were Medford visitors Thursday on their way to Crater lake. Mr. Drenkhahn has been an employe of the MacMorran and Wash bur ne store in Eugene for many years. i Visit Crater Lake En route to Crater lake as a part of their west ern tour, 125 students from the Uni versity of Wichita stopped In Med ford yesterday, where the buses were registered according to the state law. The buses, registered to Wm. M. Gold stein of Wichita, were driven by Horace M. Pardum, H. Millard White and Theodore O. Heer. First Oregon Trip O. E. Goodman, who arrived In Medford late yester day afternoon from Los Angeles, stated that, although he had worn out 11 cars In California, he had never been In Oregon before. He was en route to Spokane on his vaca tion trip, and registered his auto mobile at the state bureau In charge of Lee C. Gar lock. From Mining Congress The Eu gene chamber of commerce has an nounced that Saturday,- August 27, a Western Oregon Mining congress will be organized in that city, and a large number of mining people in Marion, Linn, Lane and Douglas counties are expected to attend. Watsons at Cabin Mr. and Mrs. Dub Watson of this city spent last night at Shady Cove. Joining other Medford folk in enjoying swimming and boating in the Rogue river. Returns to Roseburg George C. Barbour of Roseburg. who ha been attending to business matters In Medford for the past three days, left this morning for the north. Citizenship Class Classes In citi zenship will be opened by Mrs. G. Down from Shady Cove Miss Shir ley Chad wick and Miss Betty Vllm, who have been guests for several days of the Elliotts at their cabin at Shady Cove, are expected to return to Medford this afternoon. . Undergo Operations A. R. Tucker underwent a major operation at the Community hospital this morning. Mrs. O. C. Maust also underwent a major operation at the Community. Both axe reported getting along nicely. Leaving Tonight Mrs. John Four ney of San Francisco, who has been on a business trip north, arrived to Medford this morning by train, and will continue her Journey south on the Shasta this .evening to Golden Gate. Leaves for South E. A. Groves, general agent of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railway, with head quarters In San Francisco, left last evening on the Shasta for the bay city, having attended to buslncst, in terests In tills city. " To Star Gulch C. T. Flynn of the forest service offices In Portland, and Mr. Weeks, representative of the Wil lamette Erstead company, yesterday made a trip to the Star Gulch road in the Applegate, where a new trail builder Is being placed on a tractor. Pictures Shown A half hour of motion pictures. Including scenic views and events of local Interest, was enjoyed by the B. Y. P. U. of the First Baptist church last Sunday evening. The films were furnished by the Copco and the machine, which ,waa operated by a member of the class, by Koke -Chapman company. Guests on Rlvef Andrew Welch of San Francisco, who has a river iodge on the banks of the Rogue, arrived In Medford on the Shasta today with two guests, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Jen kins, also from the south. Guests or Confers Miss Ruth Dun can and Mrs. W. G. Ueea of Sacra mento arrived in Medford from the south on the Shasta this forenoon, to spend two or three weeks aa the guests of Mr. and Mrs, H. E. Conger and family of the West Side district. Cap tain Yancey, well known army flier, was a recent visitor to Medford, and made the Crater lake trip from the local airport. Home from Hollywood John Reddy, Roger Eearly and James Ed mlston have returned to Medford from Hollywood and Los Angeles. Reddy has been working on a motion picture lot in the movie capital for several weeks, and Early and Edmls ton attended the Olympics. They re turned to their homes here yester day. Insurance Men Here W. L. Har nan, resident manager of the Phoenix Indemnity company, with headquar ters in Seattle, is in Medford today, calling on local agents. He is ac companied by J. S. Sheppard, resi dent manager at the San Francisco ofice, and Glen Pierce, superintend ent of claims for the company on the Pacific coast. They visited southern Canadian points, and spent three weeks In Port Townsend, Wash. While at the lake they made the trip to the water's edge and reported a pleasant Journey. At the park they met another southerner, Shelby Southard of Alabama, guest of "On to Oregon, Inc." who visited In Med ford Wednesday. The trio expressed hopes of returning to Oregon. According to information available this morning at the office of H. G. Moore, labor agent for the unem ployed, there are not many local resi dents who are qualified pear packers at present unemployed. Only eight applications have been made since notices appeared in yesterday's Mill Tribune, and employment has been secured for some of them. Mr. Moore is anxious to get In touch with all local residents who have had previ ous experience In packing pears, and all such are requested to call at his office in the city hall. A number of local packing houses have indicated their willingness to cooperate with the ajwoctatlon of the unemployed in securing Job for lo cal people, and It Is in order to se cure the names and qualifications of unemployed packers that Mr. Moore has requested Interviews.
