TAKES QUAIL TO STATE GAME FARM 0,ne Simpson, superintendent of the state game farm, was accompanied on hts recent return to Curvallta from this city by a brood of two weeks' old mountain quail, hatched at the south ern Oregon branch of the flame farm. Mr. Simpson was ao favorably Im pressed with the brood upon his visit at the farm here, he decided to take he birds north to be used for props, gallon of their kind at the atate game farm. The egs fro mwhlrh the young birds evolved two weeks ago were brought to the southern Oregon branch farm by a rancher who found the nest, deserted. He telephoned the Jackson County Oama Protective aasoclatlon, which gladly accepted the eggs. They were placed under a little bantam hen, whose activities were carefully watched. Twenty-one days elapsed, then 33 and the watchers had given up hope, firm In the belief that such little ems would not re quire more then three weeks Incuba tion. Then the twenty-alsth day ar rived and so did the little birds with a chorus of chirping. The atate game farm has produced few mountain quail and Mr. blmp son Is anxious for a larger propaga tion of the birds, which are largor than the valley juall and more color ful In their plumage.
