PAGE ELEVEN CLEARING ROUTE IN SIS VALLEY FOR ROAD GANGS Th work of clearing the right of way for the Soma Valley secondary highway haa been atarted by Jackson county. Seven to ten men are em ployed and when the construction geta under way thla number will be Increased to around fifty. Moat of the work will be done by residents of the district through which the road passes and who are In need of em ployment. The city of Rogue River haa In quired what It will cost for the coun ty to oil a atrip of road within the incorporate limits that is the bane of 'housewives and merchants when the dirt starts flying. The county, In the case of Eagle Point, agreed to furnish the oil equipment, the cost to be borne by the road district. The county court will leave Sun day to attend the unemployment meet In Portland Monday, called by Governor Meier to discuss ways and means for providing relief. All the county courts of the state will be presenf. The petition of 39 residents of the Tiller-Trail district, asking that the state highway commission order a survey of the Jackson county por tion of the Tiller-Trail road, will be given consideration. If the survey waa ordered the work of clearing the right of way could be atarted and furnish summer and fall employment. Douglas county, with federal funds, will spend over (100,000 on Its por tion of the road this summer and autumn and will probably complete this year most of the route to the Jackson county boundary line, about 14 miles from Trail. t CHICAGO STADIUM DRESSED UP FOR CONVENTION WHEAT GROWERS AMARILLO, Tex,, June 17. (AP) Eight Texas Panhandle wheat growers filed suit In federal district court here today against the Chicago Board of Trade, asking damages of $48,795 representing losses on wheat sales, an Injunction against "pit" opera tions and long and short selling, and disclosure of the names of eight trad ers whom they allege control the wheat market. The Uhlman Grain Co. of Chicago, with offices In Amarlllo, and Fred, as defendants. The petition charged Paul and Richard Uhlman were named that the Uhlman company is a mem ber of the board. i i PORTLAND, Ore., June 17. (AP) Great Britain offered to wipe the slate clean of reparations and war debts at the International economic conference here today, but France Insisted that elimination of trado barriers was more Important than cancellation of the war payments. Germany's spokesman, in a temper ate address, made no reference to re pudiation of reparations but Indicat ed that It might be necessary to de clare a moratorium on private debts, most of which are owed to Americans. When the Curtis camp found. In Chicago, that It needed the help of the administration. It got it. States lukewarm toward Curtis, for Instance, but undecided where to go, were advised to put up favorite sons, and keep on the sidelines until they saw how events were turning, turning. It worked very well. When the roll waa called, the opposition was widely split, and no one was within gunshot of Curtis.
