There were but five councilman 'present at the meeting thla week. A majority vote la required for P aage and Councilman J. O. Orey opposed the ordinance. He gave as his reason elimination of the clause granting the city of Medford right to repurchase the aystem. which was included In the original fran chise. The three per cent tax upon an nual Income of the power company, desired by the council and citizens, Is included In the ordinance, whlon reads aa follows: AN ORDINANCE granting to the California Oregon Power company, a California corporation. Thompson received three votes for constable and other leading citizens received complimentary votes for every position on the ballot. Certificates of election are being prepared by the county clerk and will be mailed within the next two days to the victors. The morning program at Junior high will open at 10 o'clock. The address to the class of some 360 members, will be given by Walter Bedford of the Ashland normal school. ( AP) Miss Maiy Gilbert. 30, who last night commit ted suicide by hanging herself at Lawrence. Kan., was the daughter of L. M. Gilbert, ex-superintendent of the stat training school for boys here, and now at the head of the chlldren'a farm home near Corvallla. Miss Gilbert waa known aa an honor student here. Miss Gilbert graduated from Wil lamette university in 1025, and a year later accepted a position In the Medford high school. She taught there until last year when she went to the University of Kansas to take work for the masters degree In Eng lish, aha lived at Lawranea, Kaa., with her sister, Marjorle. who with her husband, had received the doc tors degree from the Kansas univer sity. Miss Gilbert was prominent In educational circles here and belong ed to a number of university organ izations. Friends of Miss Gilbert said she waa both attractive and brilliant. She also has a brother Malcolm, living In Portland, and a sister, Mrs. Cornelius Bateaon In Corvallla. White a aenlor In the university hers Miss Ollbert was courted by Ward Sou t,h worth, a student at the institution who later took bis own life In the east. Ashland Choir In City Tonight The choir and soloists from the Full Gospel Temple In Ashland will be at the revival services In the Full Gospel church here tonight, and will be heard In special solo, duet and choir numbers. - Evangelist W. R. Watson will speak on "The Virgin Birth." Good crowds have been attending the revival aervlces. Sunday night the church was filled.
