PAGE TWELVE MEDFORD SIXIL TTHBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON, SUNDAY, MAT 15, 1932. IS (Continued trom Page One) As these and other revelation were bared the principal! In the tragic drama maintained an outward calm In their hilltop home. Colonel Lind bergh manage a wan amtle of greet ing when Prosecutor Erwln E. Mar- shall visited the residence lata In the day. Mrs. Lindbergh, an expect ant mother, who wavered close to collapse last night, regained her quiet demeanor late in the afternoon. Scour Sea Area Tile fantastic story of Curtla, sup plemented by a sea captain's descrip tion of the boat trips he made with Colonel Lindbergh, even aa late as the nlgftt of the finding of the body, set a flotilla of coast guard craft to scouring an area off Cape May, N. J. Officials of the Atlantlo City, N. J., coast gusrd station admitted the searching vessels were carrying more than the usual number of firearms but refused to estimate the number of boata engaged In the task. From the office of the attorney general In Washington, acting by the direction of the president, a formal offer of vast federal assistance was dispatched speedily to Governor A, Harry Moore. Both Colonel Schwarz kopf and the governor acknowledged the aid of government operatlvea since the outset of the state Inquiry and the latter aald he would reply In writing Monday to the renewed offer of co-operation. Kidnaper Known, Claim The unexpected atatement of Dr. Condon, made aa he left bla Mew York home for a short trip, was: "I know the kidnaper of the Llnd bergh baby and be will be caught, I know bis name, his nationality, his physical charaacterlstlcs and all about him." This was added to a cryptle utter. ance of the retired echoolmaster aa he emerged earlier from the quar tern of Charles B. McLaughlin, Bronx district attorney, who has announced JUs intention of Initiating a grand Jury inquiry In which Dr. Condon would be a witness. At that time the 77-year-old "Jaf. ale." who treated with the supposed kidnapers partly through newspaper advertisements, said: "Isn't It bad enough to be silent witnout being Indicted for Infringe Mg on silence? Anything I might say might add to the discomfiture or a bereaved family." Rosner In Picture The disclosures of still another in termedlary, Morris Rosner. mysterious undercover man, added to the pua sling mass of data filtering; through the &aruia 01 investigators. Rosner, who appeared for question ing at police headquarters here, re vealed that he took one of the ran earn notes to New York and supplied a usi or an persons to whom he had anown It, He was permitted to leave without surveillance. Prosecutor Marshall, the man upon whom rests a large portion of the burden of capltallalng the police In formation, had a perplexing series of questions to answer. Many Questions Among them were: Did one and the same group of persons steal the infant, kill him and then negotiate for ransom both Uirough Dr. Condon and Curtla? Were these separate or interlock ing criminal gangs which operated In this manner? Did the contents of the original ransom note become known to a group of extortionists who never had the baby In their possession? Waa the garment purporting to be the baby'a sleeping suit the token which waa used In the Jaflae nego tiations the genuine article or a counterfeit? In answering these questions Vie public had before It the repeated of ficial declaration that positive means of Identification were provided In the ransom notea received subsequent to the original demand left In the baby's nursery. Negro I'nrler Quia Such a premise prompted the final question of whether or not It might have been possible to forge whetew means of Identification was pro vided. Aa an Indication of the breadth of the police pursuit authorities an nounced William Allen, negro truck man who came upon the baby's body, was being Investigated and that bis finger prints were taken. New York authorities In their ef forts to co-operate escorted Jamea Oracle to New Jersey for examina tion regarding his statements that he had been In touch with underworld characters who once demanded 1100, 000 for the baby'a return.
