I am asked this question many times each week. First, the shelter tax exemption committee appointed by the Medford Realty board will undertake to con tact every man nominated to run for the legislature after the nominations are made. We will try to convince these men regardless of party affilia tions that ahelter tax exemption la a necessary correction at this time of an economic error, and pledge as many of these men as we possibly can to work for tha measure at the next session of the state legislature. Second, we have been, and will continue, to contact as many of the key men of the state as possible re garding this measure. Such men as Osborne, the state secretary of labor; the members of the atate tax com mission at Salem, the state Orangera masters, Oovernor Meier, the mayors of the larger cities and other men of influence In the state and win the support of as many of these men aa we possibly can for this measure. I have met with some of these men and discussed with them this plan and find them very much In terested and know that a majority of them are already favorable to It. E. B. Day, who was on tho legisla tive tax committee last year haa con tacted several of these men, Includ ing Lonergan. speaker of the house, snd has the promise of some of these men to help him In drafting the necessary legislative measurea. This partnership waa dis solved and BUton remained the sol owner, editor and publisher until 1895 when Batter&on Joined him as partner for a year and a half. The pnper gradually grew in air and quality, always to the present day being a strong booster for the new community and in 1909 became daily paper while the weekly waa still an Important issue, which en Joyed a large circulation. George Putman enme to Medford In 1905 and began publishing "The Tribune." October, 1009. A. S. BUton sold the "Medford Mall" to Putman, who consolidated it with "The Tri bune," calling It "The Medford Mail Tribune." continuing It as a dally with a weekly edition besides, for a few years. In 1010, S. Sumpter Smith and L. C, Branson started a morning paper "The Medford Sun." Branson lifter a few months sold hla Interest to Smith who Junuary 1, 1911. sold an Interest In the paper to Robert Ruhl. In 1013 a combination wns effected with "The Medford Mail Tribune" and until 1919 "The Sun" was published every morning except Monday and the "Medford Mall Tri bune" every evening except Sunday, In 1919 George Putman sold his interest to 8. Kelser started It as "The Valley Record" and continued to publish It as a weekly until August, 1910, when he sold It to Earl Fehl who changed the name to "The Pacific Record Herald."
