Local society will be bridge con scious tomorrow, is the prediction today, for many reservations have been made lor the spring bridge tea to be held at St. Mark's Guild hall, under auspices of the St. Mark's Altar Guild. Elaborate decorations are being hung this evening to create a royal Japanese atmosphere In keeping with spring time In the Orient for the party. The hostesses will be attired In Japanese coBtumea when they re ceive the guests tomorrow afternoon. Contract, auction and progres sive bridge will be played, with prizes for the winners In each. A musical program will also be pre sented as an added attraction. On the committee, completing plans for the tea. are: Natalie Hamilton, Prances Kenney, Mesdames Robert Hadley, C. Morrison, H. S Hlnman and Wm. B. Hamilton. Reservations may be made by calling Mrs. Hlnman at 1123-X. " - 4 -Mrs. Merrltt Here From New York Guests of Mrs. Pred Burke of S31 Pennsylvania avenue, this Keek, are her sister, Mrs. Etta Merrltt, and her son-lnlaw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Westcott of Brewerton, New York, who plan to spend a month :n this city. Mrs. Merrltt formerly lived In Gold Hill and Is remembered in southern Oregon by many friends. Music Study Group Meets Tomorrow ' Tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at the library the music study group of the Jackson county teachers will meet in the lecture room for a study of music and musical Instruction. Demonstration classes will be pre sented by Mrs. Crane and Miss Cro-mar. Miss Butler Will Attend Olympic Games Late summer Is etlU several months distant, but people of Med ford as yell as those of foreign continents, are already focusing their attention upon Los Angeles, Cal., where the Olympic games will be staged. Although many are weighing In definite plans In their minds. Miss Arllene Butler Is one of the first to announce that she Is going to attend the grand carnival of sports. She writes from Long view. Wash., where she is an instructor In the schools, that she will spend a portion of the summer In this city at guest of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Butler, and will continue to Los Angeles in August. Very Young Set Enjoys Birthday Event Today Master Steve Olppel celebrated hts sixth birthday this afternoon at a festive party arranged by his mother, Mrs. S. Ralph Dlppel, at their home on Queen Anne. A yellow color scheme was used throughout the decorations and fav ors which were presented the little boys and girls, adding much to the Jolly occasion. Games were played and luncheon served, picnic style, on the spacious lawn. Guests Joining Master Dlppel in the celebration were: Joan Elliott, Betty Ann Baker, Lois Ann Hubbard, Joan Humphreys, Junior Harris, Bar-1 bara Butler. Barbara Inskeep, Mary Harris. Dee Goold, Connie Reames, Jimmy Miller. Billy Darby, Edward Gove, Jack Kresse and Betty Nord wick. Barbara Butler to Celebrate Birthday Little Miss Barbara Butler, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren D. But ler, will be guest of honor tomorrow afternoon, when her mother enter tains with an afternoon party. For Barbara Is celebrating her sixth birth day Saturday. St. Mary's Benefit Party Successful Affnlr More than 150 Med ford women gathered at St. Mary's academy yes-; terday afternoon for the spring bridge i benefit, sponsored by the women ofj Sacred Heart Catholic church. Thnre were 33 tables of cards in play and a splendid program was presented by students of the academy, under, di rection of the Slaters, between cards and refreshments. The auditorium was converted in to a refreshing spring garden for the occasion, with an abundance of spring blossoms hanging from bas kets and protruding from large vases to fill the room with their fragrance. White lllaca and tulips were most plentiful. They also made the band decorated score cards, which were In the form of a large A, on which were painted blue forget-me-nots. The carda were fin ished with blue ribbons. The stu dents and Sisters of the academy also assisted in the preparation and serving of refreshments. On the general committee In charge of tables were Miss Anna Kel lehor and Mrs, J.tC. Boyle. The re freshments committee Included Mes dames Hunter, Young and Oreltsch. Several prizes were awarded during the afternoon. Mrs. Hamilton Pat ton won first honors at contract: Mrs. Larry Schade at pivot bridge, and Mrs. Herbert of San Francisco, who la visiting here this week, was awarded first prise In progressive bridge. The 500 prize went to Mrs. Michael Beck. Mrs. Buckley of Ap ple pate waa also one of the winners. The party was one of the largest and most successful of the spring season, and marks a revival of Inter est in afternoon bridge. Mrs. Murray Hostess To D. A. R. Tomorrow. Mrs. C. C. Murray will be hostess tomorrow to members of Crater Lake chapter, D. A. R., at her home, 612 West Eleventh street. The paper for the afternoon will be given by Mrs. R. C. Van Valzah and officers for the coming year will be nomi nated. Mrs. Murray will be assisted by Mrs. G. Q. D'Alblnl and Mrs. R. McElhose. Mesdames Codding and McCredle Hostesses Mrs. George Codding and Mrs. Clatous McCredle entert-alned mem bers of the Allons club at the for mer's home last evening. There were 14 guests present and bridge w.ia played, with prise for high score and traveling prize going to Mrs. Lorena Leach, and prlz for second high schore going to Mrs. Wm. Lee Bricker. O. S. C.
