The golden-haired star steps forth with a new characterisation refish lngly different from those she has been given In her recent films, and It Is one In which she ts entirely at home. Her role Is that of a young New York society girl who blossoms forth from a shy wallflower Into a daoEltng charmer under the Influence of Paris and expert masculine tute Isge. Not only does the part fit Miss Bennett perfectly but It gives her an opportunity to display the ultimate in chlo gowns and wardrobe accesso ries. Feminine film fans are going to lovs this one for the fashion show It affords. The appeal of the production Is far from being limited to the eye. however, despite the loveliness of the star and her wardrobe. The story Is gay, charming and Intensely human. Miss Bennett's supporting cast Is ex ceptionally clever, particularly fea turing Ben Lyon, Davis Manners, Don Alvarado, Merna Kennedy, .John Roche, Albert Contl, Astrld Allwyn, Nella Walker, Helene Millard. Donald DUloway and many others of note. The screen play, by Horace Jack son, based on Harriet Henry's new novel, deals with a girl w.ho Is too shy and serious to attract men. Manager Nledermeyer of the Hollv in Prices! . I I REFUSE MEDFORD PLEA FOR OPENING CRATER ENTRANCE Denial of request for the opening of the Medford entrance to Crater lake was received by the chamber of commerce today from the State Highway commission In answer to the letter of April B. Cost of removal of the snow, which the commission estimates at S3000. Is given as cause for refusal oi Med ford's request. Opening of the highway at this cost, the commissioners state, is not Justified, due to the fact that it is still snowing and there is no assur ance that the road would not be come blocked again. If the Medford request were grant ed, the letter further states, the highway commission would be called upon to open numerous other high ways and would not have the money to complete the extensive program which would result. Ths letter closes with a promise to give the matter further considera tion. The chamber of commerce Is now preparing more complete Informa tion, which will be submitted the highway commission to show that the 2000 estimate Is too high. The snow Is now but IS Inches deep at Union Creek and the maximum depth at the park boundary Is 15 feet. With snow plow equipment the road could be opened within four or five days, the chamber committee reports. E. C. Soltnsky, superintendent of Crater Lake National park said this morning that as soon as work was started on this end of the high way, the park service would start opening the road out to the park boundary, J. W. Wakefield, chair man of the chamber of commerce highway committee, announced, Additional effort will be made by the chamber of commerce committee at once, he stated, to get the high way commission to give the matter further thought In hope that a change of decision may be accom plished. I Officially It was reported that had : the war been real, the loss of men, ; killed by bombardment on the trans- . ports, would have been aeven thou 1 sand, not a high percentage. OffU cers on their return told friends that had It been real war, every transport would have been aunk, all on board lost, and many. If not all, Vie con voying warships would have been sunk as well.
