PAGE FIVE VALLEY GETS RAIN In all up until 11:30 a. m. today, almost an Inch of rain, lacking but four hundreatna. has fallen in Med- lord and throughout the valley since last Sunday, slight rain continued after that hour and probable occas ional rains la the forecast for tonight and Friday. Another foot of fresh anow had fallen at Crater Lake national park up to early this forenoon. In addition to the 13 inches which fell there dur ing Wednesday night, with prospects of still more falling during the re mainder of today. Up to 5 a, m. today from 5 p. m. yesterday, only .01 of an lnc,n of rain fell here, but after that hour .29 more of an Inch had fallen by 11:30 a. m. This week's abundant rainfall Is greatly welcomed In agricultural and fruit growing circles, as being of In calculable benefit to growing crops. Many Medford people, who had their gardens planted before this week's rainy spell began, are crowing over their neighbors who had put off planting until later. The ground Is becoming thoroughly saturated wltth rain, and the main question of interest now, aa shown by general gossip along that line Is whether, when the present rain ceases It will be Immediately followed by cold weather, or warm weather. Irrepressible elephant, will leave his ramshackle quarters here next week to take up a tem porary home in Eugene, where he will be oiled and polished and bur nished for an exhibition tour of the country. By truck, trailer or boxcar Tusko will make the trip to Eugene. After the cleanup -shine up program is com pleted there he will be returned to Portland for a brief visit and then will start eastward by triu-k ever the Columbia River highway. Representatives of the various building trades in Medford .have been appointed as members of the board, and all of these men are expected to attend the gathering. Juveniles Surprise Leader With Party PHOENIX. Ore., March 17 (Spl.) Juvenile Circle of Oak Circle No. 242 met at the Grange hall Saturday afternoon. Many attended and a good meeting was enjoyed. Members, with the assistance of some Oak Circle members gave a surprise party for their guardian, Mrs. Mildred Ward, honoring .her birthday which was Sunday. SPRING OPENS UP When the work on widening of the intersection at North Oakdale and Eleventh streets la completed It will have finished all the emergency relief employment municipal work contem plated by the city at this time. The number of emergency relief employes had been decreased by lat Wed nee day to 1A from the average of about 20 to 25 In recent weeks. The de mands for urgent relief employment from the city have gradually decreas ed since the orchard and other out side work has begun to open up, ac cording to City Superintendent Scheffel. There ha been expended from the clty'a emergency relief work fund to last Wednesday the aum of $2,203.12. leaving a balance in the fun of about 1300. The emergency relief employment crew of the city have completed the following work since March 1st: Storm drain from West Fourth St., to West Main St., between Quince St. and Rose Ave. Excavation of the parking and sidewalk areas on East Main St., near tlie James Owen property. Continued the cleaning of Bear creek north of the Jackson street bridge. NAME OLD OFFICERS SALEM, March 17. John Gaff ney, Jr., Oregon City, was re-elected president of the Oregon Guernsey Cattle association at the annual ses sion here yesterday. All other officers were also re-elected.
