PAGE SIX MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON, TUESDAY, . mL-JR 13, 1931 Sharkey Mauls Camera for Decisive Victory in 15 Round Battle PUD ESCAPES KAYO ROUTE BY SHOWJL NERVE Ambling Alp Dumped for Count of Nine in Wild Fourth Frame Boston Gob Takes 13 Rounds Bj HKRBEBT W. BABKER (Associated Press S porta Writer) NEW YORK, 'Oct. 13 (AP) The bigger they come the better Jack Sharkey likes It and Prlmo Camera, for one wont Tenture to deny It. In the same ring at Kb bete field where he found 170-pound Mickey Walker too tough a foe to take a few weeke ago, Sharkey bleated ble way to a decisive victory on polnte over the 360-pound Camera last night and bounced hlmaelf right . back to the forefront of challenge! for Max Schmellng'B heavyweight crown. . While a aurprlalngly large crowd of SO.OOO looked on, Sharkey went to work methodically on the big ' Venetian and relentlessly cut him down to suw. Before the Boston sailor's hand was raised In token of victory after It rounds of spec tacular milling, Sharkey bed floored Corners for one nine count, closed one of the Italian's eyes and had given him so savage a beating that Prlmo was on the verge of a knock out on a half dozen occasions. Camera Has Courage. But If the fight reinstated Sharkey to his position as a leading con tender It served also to remove any lingering doubt as to Camera's cour age and stamina. The Huge Italian failed to exhibit his vaunted punch, but he demonstrated all kinds of courage. Subjected to punishment severe enough to have finished al most any other heavyweight, the Italian man mountain still was In there offering what resistance he could when the final bell sounded. Through the first three rounds and part of the fourth Camera amaaed Sharkey and the crowd with his speed and skillful boxing. Using e left hand a la Tommy ijoughran. Camera stabbed Sharkey off balance and had the American floundering about wondering what It was all about. But the whole complexion of the fight changed In a flash In the wild fourth round, when Sharkey, after taking a cuffing In the clinches, suddenly lashed out with a left hook that dumped the huge Camera on the canvas with a dull thud, Count Resumed. Qunboat Smith, the referee, started to' count. At six ' Prlmo, stunned, pulled himself to hie feet with the aid of the ropes, but went down again as his head cleared sufficiently for htm to obey his handlers' signs to take a count of nine. As Prlmo went down on one knee again, Sharkey tore across the ring and shouted! "He went down without being hit. He's disqualified. Count him out." These Gridaters Play All Games On Home Field OSSININO. N. Y., Oct. 13 lAP) Football has come to Sing Sing, but the teams won't make day road trips. Warden Lawes thinks the game Kill , do the prisoners good "teach them to play according to rules," he explained. Two dozen football outfits have been donated. The warden said the teams would be coached by several high school and college men among the prisoners. One advantage Warden Lawes sees In prison football over the college kind I that the alumni Is hardly likely to squawk about the way the team Is handled. TIGERS TS FOR FOE But Smith waved talm astde ana resumed the count. Sharkey, mad with rage, tried to climb out of the ring, but his manager, Johnny Buck ley, pushed him back. Referee Right. Under the rules, Smith was with in his rights In resuming the count, New York state athletic commission regulations provide that If a fighter goes down, gets up and goes down again without being hit, the referee, within his discretion, either may disqualify the offender or resume the count. By the time Sharkey was ready to resume Camera was on his feet, leaning against the ropes. The battle was on agala but Camera never was the same. - Camera won only one round, the third, and held Sharkey even In an other, the 13tb. The others all went to the Boston sailor. Camera weighed aei pounds, Sharkey 202. Tl LINKS SURPRISE A new dark horse has suddenly ap peared In the P, A. T. golf tourna ment at the Medford olub In the per son of F. W.
