Mrs. Schneider Is a granddaughter of Mrs. Coulter and sister of Mr. Puhl Monster Sunflower Having seen a report In the Mali Tribune ot a Port land woman having a sunflower which measured 13 Inches In circum ference, Mrs. Lela Bonham yesterday applied the tapellne to one at her brothers ranch In Phoenix, which ex tended IP Inches across. The plant Is about 16 feet tall, Mrs. Bonham stated. It Is grown on Mrs. E. L. Hopkins' place, where there has been no Irrigation since early spring. f , Canning Apples Today The tomato pack at the Bagley cannery here has been completed, the pack being about one-fifth of that of a year ago, ac cording to Ralph Kozer, manager. A ready market was found for all of the tomato pack this year. Next Tuesday there will be a few days run on the apple pack, Mr. Kozer announced to day. Between 75 and 80 women will be given employment for the several days of the aple pack. Ashland Tid ings.. The local workmen's clause will be made a part of the contract, and designated as "Adden da M0..1." All courthouse construction work ers, under the plan, must register and must present an eligibility card to the contractor before securing em ployment. Tthe card will contain data relative to age of the applicant, mar ried or single, number of dependents, taxpayer and home owner, occupa tion, and length of residence In this county. The county will provide all labor ers and mechanics, eligible for em ployment, but the contractor will have the right to hire and fire and the county court will have no con- nectlon whatsoever with this phase J of the work. No worker shall be em ployed unless he presents a card signed by the county. j Provides for Experts It is also provided that no laborer or mechanic shall be employed who resides outside of the county, except by the special permission of the county. Is as follows: "Distinct preference as to employ ment shall be given local laborers and mechanics, and no laborer nor mechanic who resides outside of Jackson county shall be employed by any contractor, exoept by special per mission of the owner In each case. The owner will provide all laborers and mechanics eligible for employ ment with labor Identification cards and no laborer nor mechanic will be employed by any contractor who does not first present to the contractor such a card signed by the owner. "Each contractor will submit to the owner with his bid the number of foremen or others needed by the said contractor in a directive ca pacity. In case It shall appear to the contractor as the work progresses that there Is a shortage of local la bor; skilled or otherwise, or In case of strikes or unreasonable conditions imposed by local labor, said contrac tor shall appear before the owner with this representation.
