Cochran of this city. Undergoes Operation Dorothy Craig of this city underwent a major operation at the community hospital this morning and la reported to be getting along nicely. Leaves for Weed H. W. Snider of Coker Butte has gone to Weed, Cal.. to work on the new theater being erected by Walter Leverette of this city. Returns to Canyonville J. W Rld dell, who has been attending to busi ness Interests here for the past sev eral days. Is leaving today for Can yonville. Mrs. Isaacs Returns Mrs. Edna Isaacs has returned to her position at the Hutchison Mercantile company store after more than a week's illness, and Is being welcomed back by many friends, who have missed her smile and are glad to know that she Is feeling much better. Leaves Hospital Today Henry Con ger, who sustained Injuries when knocked down by a truck in this city day before yesterday. Is leaving the Sacred Heart hospital today. He Is In a much improved condition. Issue School Paper The first edl-i tlon of the Junior High News will be off the press Friday afternoon, It has been announced at school. Red Cross board to Meet The regular monthly meeting of the ex ecutive board of the Red Cross will meet tomorrow afternoon at 4 :30 o'clock at the Roc; Cross office. TELLS OREGONIAN A pigeongram addressed to the Oregonlan was received yesterday from the Rip Van Winkle club of Medford. The message waa sent by carrier pigeon from the football field at Medford Saturday and waa receiv ed at the Sperry Flour company mill. The message carried by Princess Wheat Hearts announced that Med ford waa again on the football map. It read, in part: "The Rip Van Winkle club of Med ford hereby serves notice to all of Oregon that Medford Is again on the football map. We have the team and the coach, and that old Medford spirit that brought 3000 Medford fans all the way to Portland to see the Med ford-Benson game has been strengthened by our two bad years." (Fop) Oatei of this city, for mer member of the state highway oommlsilon, before leaving last night to attend a meeting and hearing of the atate highway commission, ex pressed no surprise at the resignation of H. B. Van Duzer. "X knew It was coming." said Gate. "The governor has had a hook under him for months. When I was on the commission. Van Duser and I had an agreement that If either was forced off the other would resign. Van Duzer waa ready when I was ousted, but reconsidered, when the ! governor agreed to cease wild charges j and threaten investigations. The governor did, but Spauldlng kept on, and that brought things to a head." The retirement of Van Duzer came as a shock and surprise to county officials and others Interested In road development. He was a strong friend of southern Oregon on the commission. "J. C. Ainsworth, named to auc ceed Van Duzer, Is a strong and com petent man, and I believe will help southern Oregon whenever he can." Is the view of Gates. He said Ains worth has been interested In high way development for years, and has made many trips with the .highway commission on tours of inspection in the last ten years. Landowners and residents of the Roxy Ann and Climax district yes terday riled a petition with the county court asking that a road ba built between Roxy Ann and Cli max, the property owners agreeing to donate right of way. Among the signers of tha petition are the Westerlund Orchards, by Carl T. Tengwald. and the Timber Products, Inc., by Floyd H. Hart. Tha petition aeta forth that tha road development will open up 16. 000 acres of fruit and farm land, 25, 000,000 feet of merchantable tim ber, and provide acreage for 100 families. .
