Fires are still smouldering In sections of the Applegate country, but are patrolled and. nave not been spreading today. The most recent fire In that area at MUe Hill was checked at mid night last night. The fire covered about- 200 a ores. Repdrto of the blaze were received here yesterday afternoon. Fifty men were rushed to the scene and had the fire sur rounded after several hours work. Most of the crew was returned to the city today. Men are still patrolling the area. . ' Word came from Forest creek today iftat the water supply was nearly exhausted In that area and that It was necessary to haul it Into the country to extinguish fires there. 1 The Humbug lire was checked in the Forest creek hills when It spread toward Jacksonville. The Humbug fire is being .carefully guarded to prevent any new out breaks or - spreading. Damage has been small there since the flames diminished Monday.
