Candidly 1 be lieve now that my prejudice was largely mere Jealousy of tho nbll II y of some of the medical wo men who happened to heat me to It. I do not pretend to speak for my sex in tho profession, but I believe that there is today virt ually no prejudice against modi r:( I women, not even among the tally. The third question is particular ly pertinent. It asks whether It Is easier for the young medical I man to obtain appointment as in- lerne In a hospital than tt is for the young medical woman of equal training. .Maybe It Is, but if so. then the women's clubs and other oi ganizauons in inis country are not functioning very well. Today we want the a different type of wo man In the profession. We want the woman who has brains, char acter and courage. She must have courage, else she Is defeated be fore she begins. Ivet her take her degree and procure her license and complete her Internship and then hang out her shingle and carry on under her own power. If she Is going to tritcklc to some big boy. play office girl to a loud noise, why, we don't care much about her future. It isn't likely to be of any consequence. The young woman who enters medi cine with any such inhibition as that is getting off to a bum Mart. This Is 1 !a 1. Women uro peo ple now. The opportunities for the medi cal woman of Independent spirit and good training were never be fore so good as they are today. In every field. In almost every specialty, the medical woman Is on an even footing with her med ical brothers. She should regard ,j.m as tm.y n.Km.(i her. as col- leagues and equals. Let her know her stuff and stand on her own feet and play the game. Let her treat every patient as she would her own mother or sister or son. and she can attain a great dis tinction as was ever vouchsafed to any man. .
