merit and in that way of build
ing up an Independent practice of
her own ?
My answer to that Is, I hope
not. Perhaps back in tho days
of Dr. Atary Walker, who wore
pants, that might have been the
easiest way for a, young medical
woman to break in. Today we
want the a different type of wo
man In the profession. We want
the woman who has brains, char
acter and courage. She must have
courage, else she Is defeated be
fore she begins. Ivet her take her
degree and procure her license
and complete her Internship and
then hang out her shingle and
carry on under her own power.
If she Is going to tritcklc to some
big boy. play office girl to a loud
noise, why, we don't care much
about her future. It isn't likely
to be of any consequence. The
young woman who enters medi
cine with any such inhibition as
that is getting off to a bum Mart.
This Is 1 !a 1. Women uro peo
ple now.
The opportunities for the medi
cal woman of Independent spirit
and good training were never be
fore so good as they are today.
In every field. In almost every
specialty, the medical woman Is
on an even footing with her med
ical brothers. She should regard
,j.m as tm.y n.Km.(i her. as col-
leagues and equals. Let her know
her stuff and stand on her own
feet and play the game. Let her
treat every patient as she would
her own mother or sister or son.
and she can attain a great dis
tinction as was ever vouchsafed to
any man.
