They were on horseback and had two dogs with them, when ltpalo looked ahead and saw tho grizzly. When the boys got near him, ho would inovo on again.- "Tho dogs couldn't do anything with him, and tho boys didn't daro shoot for fear of hitting ono of the dogs. IFInally, tho boys camo up on the "bear, lying down. : Bealo and Nichols slipped up to within 10 feet, and both fired at the grizzly's head. Ho rolled ovor, gasped and died. Just as ho took his last breath, ono of tho. dogs slipped Into tho bear's Jaws - and received a crushed leg and shoul der for his foolishness. They used pack horses to bring tho meat to tho wagon.
