McAlcxnnder, retired army oftlcer, knowa as "The Rock of the Maine," the man who turned the Germans back before Paris, and Mrs. Alexander were guests at Crater Lake Sunday and Monday. Since his retirement, General McAlexamler has made his home at Newport, Ore. Recently the general and Mrs. McAlexahder disposed of their home on the beach and have started an extensive tour for the next four years. Thoy start ed the tour with a trip to Crater Lake to visit their old friend, R. W. Price. After touring the coast they will visit all of the principal coun tries of the world. Visitors at the lake last Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Wilson, of Medl'ord; Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Itldenour and son, Sunsanvllle, Cal, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wil son; Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Arant of Ashland, Ore., and Walter Dow men, Seattle, Wash. Dr. and Mrs. it. V. Clancy and friends or Medford were visitors for a couple of days this past week at Crater Lake. Paul Luy of Medford and Mr. and Mrs. Mao Eploy of Eugene motored to Crater Lake ono day last week. Miss Kathoriue Sweeney of Med ford was a visitor at Crater Lake last "week. Guests at Crater Lake last week from eastern states were: Effle Berklieimer, St. Paul, Minn.; Doris M. Shaplelge. Auhurudale, Mass.. '- Noble J. Wilt, chief accountant tor the national park service of Washington, D. C, spent a few days at Crater Lake. Mrs. Mark W. Gill and Mr. and Mrs. Chester A. Moores of Portland speut the week end at Crater Lake, accompanied by Mrs. George Santz of Snrlngfielti, Mass. Mr. and Mrs. II. D. Bartholomew, Miss Rosamond Mallard and Mrs. II. A. Lahury of New York City spent the week end at Crater Lake. Mr. and Mi's. Bartholomew viBtted Crater Lake about six years ago and expressed their complete sur prise at the many wonderful im provements on the rim and 'at the lodge. Mr. Bartholomew lauded the fact that In splto of all changes made by the management of the lodge and by the park service they wore still able to preserve the rus tic atmosphere that is so pleasur able to the easterner who has vis ited numerous "commercialized" parks. A guest at the lodge this past week was Eliot Jones of Stanford. "Cal. Mr. Jones is a member of the Stanford university faculty in. the department of economics, is one of the best known authorities on rail road transportation, and is the au thor of several books on that sub ject. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. ' Mickler of Portland brought as their guests to Crater Lako last woek Mr. and Mrs. Clark M. Davis of Jamestown, N. Y, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Blddle and son of Medford were visitors at Crater Lake last week end and had as their guests Mrs. S. W. Kinyon and daughters. Jean and Barbara, of Owatonna, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Henry O. Hansen of Medford and friends spent Fri day and Saturday nights at Crater Lake. Miss June Enrhart and Miss Mary Hayes of Medford were visitors at the lake one rtny last week. CRATER LAKH, Ore., July 29. (Spl.) The north rim road from the lodge to the Diamond Lake road and north to the park boun dary has been put in excellent con dition this past wonk. The nates "80" caterpillar and bulldozer havo been used in cutting oft the roots of trees and widening the road from a trail to standard width. BeginninK the early part of this week the entire rim road will un dergo a process of reconstruction. For this purpose a crew of men has been moved around to the old Wineglass cabin and a camp has been established. In order to es tablish the camp it was necessary to reconstruct the water pipeline down to the lake in order that water might be pumped to the camp on the rim for use by the employes.
