CONTROVERSY WITH TEACHERS IS IN PREPARATION 10 AT HEARING , -' . . - t i A hearing was under way today at Butte Falls, before the school board to determine the validity of contracts made with six teachers by the old school hoard, and df-j clared null and void by tho new . board. It is another chapter in i the school controversy that h.vs engaged the district for the past four years. The main fcts in tho present case are: The old school board, of which Mrs. Elizabeth Simmervllle was a member, negotiated contracts witn the teachers, at the salary rato In forco. before It wf.s reduced t. similar third-class district by tho con n ly bou ndary boa rd. Mrs. Elizabeth Simmervllle was afterwards ousted as a member the school board, on the grounds that she was an absentee director, maintaining a residence nt Eu gene. After her place was declar ed vacant by the county school superintendent, Mrs. Julia Dnublo. day was named to fill the place. The new hoard then invalidated the contracts, the action being cop tested hy six teachers, who hold they are legal and valid.
