Estates Dwindle Under Clams of Lawyers, Undertakers and Sextons, Is Charge. SALEM, Oregon, May 19. (P) Exorbitant uttorncy feoa, over pay ments to.iippralHOiH and heayy ser vice chui'KPH, by undertakers and sextons are eating up tho estates of persons who die in Oregon without leaving- heirs, and whoso estate are supposed to escheat to the stato, according to a statement made public by State Treasurer Kay. - The monies so acqqulred by the state goes ' into the irreducible school fund. Chargen' of raiding that fund are hurled by the state treasurer. He severely criticizes county courts also, declaring they are too free In allowing claims against these estates, chiefly legal and burial claims. Unless the pracfico Is stopped Kay says, that as a member of tho state land board, which administers the Irre ducible school fund, ho will de mand Investigation . of final ac counts. Most of the estates are small and consist of cash or its equivalent. He cites one estate of 91242.74. Tho state got none of it for 10 years, and then only $181.15. An other dwindled from $2225.29 to $7ii0.79. Another decedent left $3563.37 In Portland banks. There were no debts. Yet, by tho time It reached the school fund, it had shriveled to $11189.98.
