The program for the next three days includes strenuous degree work and various banquets and fraternal gatherings with the Ma-; sonic temple at Main and Holly i streets as the headquarters for the reunion. Davidson. 32", present Venerable Master) So far as Is known, the first authentic effort to institute the Ancient and Accepted Rite of r'reeinasonry in southern Oregon, was a notice read at a ceremonial of Hillah Temple A. A. O. N. M. S. held at Ashland in December, 1921. In answer to this call, about 25 Masters of the Royal Secret 32 met in the Masonic temple in Medford, and discussed plans to organize a county Scottish Rite club, As a means to get all Scot tish Rite Masons in southern Ore gon out, a banquet was held early in January at the Hotel Medford. Brethren were present from Ash land. ( rants Pass. Central Point, Talent, Jacksonville and other points, there being 14 consistories represented, The club was duly organized, with D. L. Davidson, president; W. 11. Klanagan, vice president; if. O. Krulmch, secretary; (ieo. K. dates, ; treasurer, and J. D. Rickert, al moner. ' At this meeting Rrother Oeorgo T. Collins presented a petition for signature by those present who would join in a regular petition to the sovereign grand inspector gen eral in Oregon for letters tempo rary to institute a Lodge of Per fection, fourth to fourteenth de grees, inclusive. This ngreement contained 35 names. Nothing more h o w eV e r , wa s done to w a rd es t a b -lishing a body In Medford, nnd the club also died through the Indif ference of its members. The first semi-official services of the rite was the Rose Croix obligatory observance of Maundy Thursday in the spring of 1922. This meeting was held under the direction of Brother J. D. Rlokert, 32. Rev. W. Judson Oldfield, 32 K. C. C. II., va the principal speaker and in closing his re marks, he urged the brethren pres ent to speed up action on the or ganization of a Lodge of Perfec tion, as did also several others present. Still nothing was done. At the Maundy Thursday observ ance In 1923, the question of or ganizing a Lodge of Perfection wns again presented, and 19 brethren agreed to get (limits or certificates of standing from their respective bodies, and join in a petition for letters temporary. These signers met April 1C, and completed the regular petition, nnd recommended the following appointments: Ven erable master, D. L. Davidson; senior warden, McM. M. Dow; junior warden, J. D. Rickert; sec retary, Paul R. Rynning. The letters temporary were granted j April 20. 1923, by P. S. Malcolm, i 33, sovereign grand Inspector , general In Oregon. The first i meeting under theo letters was 1 held May 4, and the lodge at once i settled down to work, j Rrother Lee M. Hall, formerly ; with the post office department, : presented petition No. 1 for the ineffable degrees. Petitions came ! in regularly, and on August 27, , four months after granting of the 1 letters temporary, a class of 13 aspirants was created Perfect ; LlUS. In the meantime, negotiations , had been carried on with the sov elrn grand Inspector general, 1 looking to a reunion, when all the ! degrees from the fourth tft the thirty-second, inclusive, could be ! conferred in Medford. It finally ; was decided to hold this reunion November 23, 24. 1923; the Rose Croix degrees, November IB to 18; Council of Kadosh, November 1 9 to 30. and Consistory, thirty-first and thirty-second to be conferred by the co-ordinate bodies from Kugene. At this meeting there was a class of 17 in the Lodge of Per- ' fection, and 27 finishing In the Consistory, candidates being pres ent from Kugene, Roscburg, Grants Pass. Holland, Brookings, 'Central Point, Ashland and Med ford. : The supreme council In session at Washington granted Siskiyou ; Lodge of Perfection Its charter on October 16, 1923.
