CHICAGO, 111., May 14. JP) University of Chicago students, holding a "protest meeting" against what they termed "dry snooping" at the university, were dispersed , late last night by police riot squads and firemen. George O. Fairweather, business manager of the university, dis counted reports that the students were protesting against "dry snoop ing." He said no alarm was felt concerning the liquor question at the university, and explained that if the watchman had halted any students to search them, they were seeking loiterers with weapons, not students with flasks. Not until the officers fired their revolv ers into the air did the students, numbering 500, abandon the fight which was waged in the Blare of a huge bonfire on the university cam pus. A police lieutenant was struck on the arm by a brick and several it students were slightly injured when policemen tore Into the crowd with their night clubs. Co-Eds Encourage Co-eds called encouragement to the students from vantage points In dormitory windows and parked automobiles. Cheer leaders ran to and fro, bolstering the student mar ale. Several days ago some fraternity members wore reported to havo charged that watchmen hired by the university had been stoppinK students on the campus and patting their pockets In search of flasks.
