University of Chicago students,
holding a "protest meeting" against
what they termed "dry snooping"
at the university, were dispersed
, late last night by police riot squads
and firemen.
George O. Fairweather, business
manager of the university, dis
counted reports that the students
were protesting against "dry snoop
ing." He said no alarm was felt
concerning the liquor question at
the university, and explained that
if the watchman had halted any
students to search them, they were
seeking loiterers with weapons, not
students with flasks. Fairweather

ing at 10 o'clock in the morning, or
as soon thereafter as votes are
cast. The results are (cent secret

judge of the election is tustrueted
by the state law to announce the
eotmt. The double hoards will
eliminate slow counts and make the
figures available early and often.
Election boards )n the county this
year contain many experienced ac
countants. -
Results Known Soon
By not later than midnight, near
definite figures will he available
on the fortunes ot candidates and
measures.
Election laws also require that
all ballots he counted at the same
time. The purpose Is to eradicate
the "sirtit count, vis: election
boards counting special ballots first
or vice versa.
Election officials have bees espe
cially Instructed to bring tit the
ballot boxes as soon as possible,
to avoid delay until Monday. The
sheriff's office delivers the boxes,
hut the . leetioa, boards return
them.
Interest In the election continues
apathetic. It 1s expected to become
"the Bole topic of conversation the

County Assessor J. B. Coleman,
recognteed as the leading jioiitieal
prognostientor of these parts, "pre
dicts a horse race between Corbett
and Xorblad, with Hall the runner-
up.' He holds that Hall may

in this section as the other candi
dates.

Believing that highway beautifi
cation was in Etna with the spirit
of the day, the local Garden club
gave away plants and bulbs from
their gardens to aii highway re Hi- v

view ot the highway. Over a hun- j
dred called during the day and it
was noticed that many were new
comers to southern Oregon who r
were very glad to get flowers
started on their places.
Much publicity was made pos- i
sihle thru the generosity of mer-
chants who give time on their
radio advertising hoars to cleaa-up
talks and by the papers who gave
much space ts material on the
same subjects.
Now that our roads have have ,
been put in such good condition it
is hoped that people of Medford
and other parts of the county will
take pride in keeping them so. One ;
